Also, considering that the Zero cleat allows lateral position changes, I’ve been reading up on spindle lengths and Q angle, and wonder what length is best.
Anyone find a spindle length recommendation write-up that was helpful?
Thank you
why?
why?
I’m learning about tuning my foot/knee/hip alignment; I’ve already experimented a bit with cleat lateral positioning, and I’d also like to get slightly longer spindles so I’m not too inboard underfoot with the cleats. The Ti spindles aren’t that expensive, so rather then going with another stainless steel set when I get longer spindles, I’m going Ti. Lighter too, so that never hurts.
I bought some JL spindles but they’re shorter by 2mm, which is fine for me, b/c I was not using the washer, so I just use the washer now… the thread lengths are longer too. I cannot comment on others though, from what I’ve seen, most are made in taiwan and just badged. Maybe someone makes a USA made custom with a longer length, but I don’t know.
Ward Ti- they sell on ebay.
Or email them at tispindle@gmail.com
Ti will tend to flex more, so that might be a consideration. The better BG Fit shops will have a set of Speedplay Zero pedals in the full range of widths (they make a fit kit). I demo’ed sets until I came up with the most comfortable set and then purchased the axels that worked best for me.

Seems they don’t currently sell spindles for Speedplay, at least not listed as available on their website.

Just ordered 2 pairs if the super narrow 72.4 and very happy. Have very narrow pedaling stance so I had my cleats slammed outboard. Now my cleats are both centered underfoot and I’m still about 1.5mm narrower then when I had the standard chromoly spindles.
He sells the Ward spindles.
You can get them for about $20 less by going direct.
Contact them.
They just can’t advertise it because the Speedplay lawyers get on them.
Yup, ward. But I had never seen the 72.4 anywhere else so I went with him.

That would be ideal, but it seems nobody in my area has any Ti spindles for Speedplay in stock. Also, I’m not sure, but it seemed in my looking around on Speedplay’s site that the multiple lengths they offer are SS, not Ti, but I could be totally incorrect.
I’m curious about the flexibility of Ti spindles. Lots of pro racers use them, and I’d imagine they are trying to achieve optimal efficiency. Wonder if there is any data that supports power output over long-term while using them versus SS.

Ah, good tip, thank you. I emailed them a couple days ago on their site, but hadn’t heard back yet. Will phone tomorrow.
How much do you weigh?
I have never felt flex in the Ward spindles and I use 59mm?

I weigh 185, on my way down to 178-ish in the next couple of months. (I’m 6’ 1" and not built super skinny.)
The Speedplay fit kit is a set of about 6 pairs of pedals in every length they make, so they are different from a shop stocking the axels. I know of only one shop in Boulder hat actually keeps different lengths in stock.
