Last year we stayed at the Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf, which was ok, but I’m thinking the Holiday Inn, two blocks closer, and really close to Aquatic park for practice swims. Any other recommendations nearer to the Marina?
If you can afford the Hyatt you can afford the Argonaut. Great place and a 2 minute walk to the park.

I take it this place is pretty nice? Bike friendly?
Look for places around Lombard Street. Last year I stayed at The Comfort Inn there and it was great. Fairly reasonable, a 5 minute walk to the aquatic park and about 7 from the race site. I had asked a bunch of local surfers from a SF website, and that was the consensus. I was very happy. There were triathletes staying all up and down the street.
We stayed at the Hilton in the Fisherman’s Wharf area last year. The location was pretty close to the race site and great for getting on busses, cable cars, and trollies (which my then 1 1/2 year old son loved).

From a post on the same subject last week:
BTW,
Does anyone have any hotels to recommend close to the venue. I’m game to room with somebody to save a few bucks if anybody is interested. Also, is a rental car needed or is public transportation sufficient? I’ve never been to SF, so any help is appreciated!

There was a thread over the weekend about lodging. Any of the motels on Lombard Street should be fine (some are better than others though). Any of the Fisherman’s Wharf hotels will be more expensive, but also a decent location (mile ride on the bike to the start/finish).
You do NOT need a car if you are there. And, most hotels/motels will ping you $25 or more PER NIGHT to park. Don’t even think about street parking since most neighborhoods are stickered and there isn’t any anyway (and the residents get cranky and call DPT to tow). Bus and cable car are the way to go. If you want to do a day trip to the wine country, rent one for the day.

I thought the Argonaut was quite a bit more than the Hyatt. I agree, it’s an awesome location, but pricey. I’ll check though. Thanks.
About as good as SF gets on both counts. And you get free wine at 5:00 PM. The Escape is one of the Spousal Unit’s favorite tris. The Arognaut is one of the reasons why.
I stayed at the Argonaut after the Vineman in 2004 – Great hotel and location, highly recommended!
Chelsea Motor Inn is where I stayed wth my group. Recommend it. Super close to the transition area. We all rode our bikes down in the morning.

.
I would recommend the Hotel Del Sol. It is very close to the race start/finish and walking distance to many restaurants.
If you are looking for a more affordable, I would recommend the Club Quarters Hotel in the financial District. I stayed there last year and just rode my bike to the start and then back after the race. No hills as you are just riding along the embarcadero.

What?? That would be a terrible location (3rd btwn Market/Mission). A car would be necessary and you’d pay $$$ to park. No way I would want to ride a bike around there with all the car/bus/pedestrian traffic.

I just booked Chelsea online.

We stayed at the Argonaut Hotel for the 06 race. Nice place and very convenient.
We booked The Argonaut. Life is not about deprivation! (It wasn’t that expensive considering that it is S.F.)
Cathy, this time I’m hoping to hook up with the ST swim at Aquatic Park. Last year I wandered around and never found you.
Last one - depending on where you are coming from and how much you want to ride your own wheels on a short 18 mile course, you can get a pretty nice Marin from Blazing Saddles which is about 2 blocks from the Arognaut. Have a great race.
KEJ and I will definitely be planning something!! And we’ll have better directions, etc. next year.
