I currently wear an orca tri suit and the padding isn’t enough for even a 12 mile bike race. What tri suit manufactures provide better padding for longer races??? and/or what manufacturer do you wear to do half or full ironmans?
Thanks

Maybe you should consider a saddle cover? Thicker padded shorts might make you feel like you are running in a waterlogged diaper.
2XU Long Distance Tri Short is my new favorite. Best tri chamois I have seen. Substantial enough for biking, but, designed not to interfere with running. They look really cool and are extremely comfortable.
Plus, the front is dimpled to reduce wind and water resistance!*
*Note 1: No, I did not know they were dimpled when I bought them.
Note 2: Yes, I did laugh when I saw they were dimpled.
Note 3: I’m not fast enough to need dimpled ANYTHING, let alone shorts!
Note 4: Still my favorite short by far.
Not looking for a saddle cover just a brand with a little more padding…
Try the Oomph shorts. The distance short & the Lava? compression shorts have the most padding, which is still very comfortable while running. These are the best shorts out there in my opinion & I have tried many of them. I weigh about 185 lbs, so put a little pressure on the contact area with the saddle. I think trisports sells them online or you can get them direct from Oomphsports.

(FYI- I have no connection with the co. other than liking and buying their products.)
Try Jaggad - they do a removable chamois system, looks pretty cool but I have not yet tried it so cannot fully comment.
I tried the Oomph shorts, and while they felt great for the first 10-15 miles, they have a seam that runs right down the center, and I was ready to confess to just about anything after a mere 36 miles…maybe my taint will get used to them, but that seam in the center kind of sucks.

I wore my DeSoto 1-piece for a 100 mile training ride and it was my most comfy ride of the year. Love it!

You need to try that ride with sitting on a pair of plums!
t n’ b,
Do you have the same discomfort using regular roadie bike shorts with a thick pad? As thin as most tri short pads are,
I think it would be hard to find one that gave you that much more cushion over another. I currently use the TYR Long
Distance Race short and have had great luck with it, but I could wear nothing and feel comfortable because I use the
Adamo Racing Saddle. I wouldn’t discount the Saddle as your problem. If you have the right saddle, it shouldn’t be
that uncomfortable after such a short distance no matter how thick the pad is in your shorts. JMO

i wear zoot tri shorts for all of my cycling/racing. i love them, jsut enough padding to get the job done wthout over doing it.
Hi,
I have a shop at my disposal, and can use anything. (2XU, Jaggad, TYR, Craft, LGarneau, OOMPH!)
The OOMPH! Lava wins hands down. To the hand, the pad feels too big for running.
But after runs of varying pace and distance, I must say the pad is not noticeable on the run.
Two thumbs up for a locally made product!
I usual wear Pearl Izumi’s ultra sensor cycling shorts which have a lot of padding, so my race shorts are a big change… I just bought a Craft Tri suit so I guess I’ll see how comfortable they are. I’ve heard good things in the past about craft and they’ve added a back pocket… I must admit I love Craft’s 5 dot logo and as always I have to support the Swedes!!
Not the DeSoto Vuelo shorts. I just got a pair and the chamois is very narrow which causes the stitchig on the ends to line up right over my sit bones. I’ve been trying to wear them lower in the back to get the wider end around, but with little success. Maybe they’ll be stretched out more after a swim. Or maybe they’ll just rub me raw faster when the stitching and my crotch is wet I’ll find out Saturday!
