Best new $2000 carbon road bike?

I friend of mine has been cycling for several years and is ready to upgrade. He wants a full carbon frame. $2000 or less. What would you recommend? Has to be new, no used bikes need apply:) I know whichever one fits the best is the stock answer but for the sake of discussion let’s assume otherwise.

pedalforce or one of the cheapo asian unbranded frames on ebay.

pbk for campy veloce (cheaper than ultegra right now), cables+housing, ritchey wcs headset, aksium wheels, bars+stem+tape, saddle, pedals and bottle cages.

otherwise, go find something on sale.

if you can find one last years p2c.

since p2cs are not road bikes, this might be a problem.

he would need to buy new bars, new shifters, and a new saddle (though dave z rode the selle italia t2 or whatever it’s called on his road bike for a while).

The cheapest Orbea road frame runs about $2100. But I hope your friend knows an upgrade should consider more than the frame material…

Because these are stupid constraints

and because Cervelo cannot satisfy them

I refuse to answer!

this fellow is correct.

it should also involve sex appeal considerations.

for that reason, he should consider looking into a colnago extreme c with full campy super record, boras, record bottle cages, selle italia slr c64 saddle, deda newton stem + shallow drop bars, cinellli cork bar tape, and speedplay zero pedals.

in the event that colnago extreme c framesets are not readily available, a pinarello prince, parlee z1, or look 595 are suitable alternatives.

Sorry missed the road part.

There’s always the Specialized Tarmac Elite. 09 MSRP is I believe 2100, but I’ve seen them for 2000. If you get lucky, you may be able to find an 08 for around 15/1600. I know one of my LBS has one (not in my size unfortunately) for 1599 last I checked.

If it has to be carbon and new, then I would say go with a lower level Specialized Tarmac or Roubaix, you should be able to get one for $2000 or less. Depending on size, you might be able to find a clearout on last years models still.

Check out Scott’s CR1 Team. They have great carbon technology and make a very nice frame in terms of price, ride, and quality.

OEM Dedacciai Scuro RS 2009 with Force.

Buddy built one up in a 56cm and it weighs in at 15.4lbs with Reynolds Attacks…

Here’s the Cadre version:

Agree. A new CR1 Team with 105 sells for 2100. One of the best values out there for a road bike.

If he’s not inclined towards buying frames and building up from scratch then it’s pretty hard to argue with this one.

I got my Orbea Onix '08 with entry level campy for about $2300. Its a killer bike and in my opinion a much more comfortable ride than the comparable Specialized or Wilier models. Give it a shot!

Valdora road frame carbon, $2399 fully built.

+1 for the CR1. I’ve been using a CR1 team for training and some commuting since 2007. Scotts are a pleasure to ride … very well made bike.

Tegra said it best…Pedalforce.com or ebay…

stay away from cervelo please!!! LOL

Pedal Force RS with Sram Force $2200 and comes in at 15.4 LBS but upgrade to the Easton EC90 SL straight fork for $63 and you have a great build.
