What is the best mini-pump out there… quality performance but definitely small enough to carry in a jersey pocket. I have the CO-2 stuff but would like a convenient back-up for long rides.
Thanks… Ray

Topeak is super good. So is Crank Bros.
SuperDave showed us some from a new company he is repping- I was very impressed by them. I can’t recall the brand name but they seemed very nice.
SuperDave? Darn. He’s still in bed.
Thanks, Tom.
I know you don’t sell bikes on-line. Do you do any merchandise through your website or telephone orders?
Ray
After much pressure from the ST community, Tom sells quite a bit of stuff over the phone. I think Mike A is the main man to talk to for phone orders, but anyone who answers can probably help you out.

Tom is right. I did show him and sell the ultimate mini pump.
RavX is producing a few depending on what you are looking for.
The have the:
Master X Mini G
This pump uses a CO2 cartridge OR a hand pump action to inflate the tires, it also has a guage, it is about $40
Also for the minimalist:
The Mini Force X
This is the lightest mini pump I’m aware of. Presta head, short carbon fiber body. The Colnago C50 of mini pumps.
They have several models in between including a few that use the CO2/Pump Hybid technology that’ll get you home when you run out of the convienent cartridges. They also accept both threaded and non-threaded styles.
Check out www.RavX.com for some details, their site has yet to be updated for '05 yet, but some of their stuff is there.
email me for more details.

Personally I’d go with the Barbieri CarbOne “The first carbon fiber mini pump. At only 9 inches long it can attain a whopping 142psi. Includes clips to fit next to a waterbottle cage. 59g” I was a little skeptical about the PSI claim, but it really gets up there - of course, I haven’t verified it actually does go exactly to 142psi, but goes as high as you’d really ever sensibly need unless maybe you are riding on a track and then you probably wouldn’t bother with the pump in the first place. Also, it is pretty quick to inflate the tire. Perhaps most important, it looks cool. They make a titanium one too.
I’ll second that. I got one after my friend showed it to me. About $30. Looks cool, too.
I haven’t tried this carbon fiber pump, but I like my Crank Bros. pump. Pumps pretty well and fits comfortably in my jersey pocket.
Please, someone enlighten me! Why do you all need a backup mini pump? I’m not trying to be smart, just trying to understand what I’m missing. I carry a CO2 pump with 2 16oz cartridges. I’ve had my share of flats in traning, never in a race, over the past 14 years and the CO2 works prefectly everytime. It pumps a tire up in about 2 seconds to over 110psi. I can’t for the life me figure out why I need to carry a pump that you have to pump about 50 times to pump up your tire so you can ride again. I always view that as a total waste of time and energy when the CO2 does all the work in 2 seconds flat.
Please don’t flame away…I really don’t get the use of a hand pump over a CO2 cartridge.
I’ve had two flats in one ride.
In that case if I get a 3rd one I can pump up and keep going or patch it and get home.
Whoa, 2 flats in one ride. That sucks! I’ve never had more then 1 in a ride. I always carry 2 cartridges just in case I screw up and lose all my CO2 before I’m ready (ya never know). I carry one tube. I always head right home after I flat. So I guess I call my wife for a “pickup” if I get a second flat!
You’re lucky, has happened to me more than once. Well if you turn around after your first flat, I guess you limit the probability. But I’m not gonna turn around if 5 Km into my ride I get a flat. I never let a flat get in the way of getting my ride in ![]()
Also, I don’t carry a cell phone on my rides.
I don’t carry a cell phne either. I’ve had to call my wife twice to pick me up since I flatted without a spare 2 times.
I’ve always made it home on my bike
even riding 40km with road rash.
But like Larry I use CO2’s for racing where I wanna save as much time as possible.
I need it. I fly to virtually every one of my races and I am sick of buying CO2 cartridges and then giving them away at the end of the race.
Anyone know if there is a ligit way to get CO2 cartridges on a plane? Big Kahuna?
Cheers,
dt.
Works for me.
