There’s a lot of books out there about Lance Armstrong; Its not about the bike and Lance Armstrong’s War come to mind. So, what’s the best ‘Lance’ book out there? Most informative, well written, not too sensational, fairly unbiased etc. Any recommendations?
I’ve only read one, but Its Not About the Bike is definitely worth the read. Especially if someone close to you has been through Cancer treatment.
How Lance does it - Brad Kearns
Excellent book.
It’s been a while since I’ve read any of them, but to my recollection Lance Armstrong’s War fit the description you gave better than anything else.
I am/was reading that.
I really thought it was awful. I don’t think I have ever not finished a book but this might be the first one. I really thought it was a useless attempt to use the name Lance Armstrong to sell a book.
It’s Not About the Bike is great for inspiration. Lance Armstrong’s War is a great inside look at his preparation and cycling in general.
it’s not about the bike, the sequel, every second counts, is ok but not as good
Lance Armstrong’s war as mentioned.
23 Days in July is also good
Agree with “LA’s War” and “23 Days in July”. Excellent books on the inner workings of the peleton, as well. Thoroughly enjoyed both.
Yep, Kearn’s book is a good one. LA War was very good as well. Not about Lance, but Inside the Postal Bus by Michael Barry is good read.
Interesting observation.
I grant you it’s not about cycling or even Lance really.
Brad Kearns could have used any highly successful person but Lance is probably the one he knows best and his name will undoubtedly sell more books.
It’s more of a " 7 habits of highly successful business men " book.
It distills the winning attitude, not totally sympathetically, but there are many words of wisdom.
I gave a copy to a friend who is a director of one of Lance’s sponsors, his book has yellow stickies on every other page.
Besides that of course, it’s written very well.
Chasing Lance by Martin Duggard (he does a Tour blog on Active.com). Excellent book, more about the Tour and what goes on every day and not just about Lance. Very highly recommended.

I read ?Its not about the bike" before I got cancer and then again after. Excellent book that helped me through my battle.
Just finished reading “LA’s War”. Very interesting facts and insight to things that we never see.
Lance Armstrong’s War is very well written and very interesting. Its not an homage to Lance, so if you are looking for that buy one of his biographies. There is a great section on Floyd Landis also which I was re-reading after last year’s Tour, but put down when his blood samples were announced.
