Best jobs for non-college grads?

It’s good to see companies actually investing in training their own people. This was lost in the UK during the Thatcher years.

I’m a controls engineer and work with electricians a lot. They are hurting. It’s a great field to get in to and if you understand controls (120vac, 24vdc, 4-20ma) you can be VERY valuable.
I typically have to land the wires for them when time gets tight.
Oh, Lord help us: an engineer landing conductors… haha!
I know, right? I stick to my stuff as the 480 and big gage wire is all yours.

My young guys definitely struggle field wiring, hence the tons of hours I’ve logged at on startups the past few months.

I’m a EET at least so I’m pretty good hands on. We leave the EE to write the specs! Then we implement and fix them 😂

Ha! Ain’t that the truth!

I had a long post explaining what I do and what I tell young people to do outta high school of they don’t wanna go to college, but I was tired and it was… disjointed, to say the least, so I scrapped it.

Essentially, I advocate for what we do. With where manufacturing is headed, controls and automation are only gonna need more and more of us!
