words with friends- im cliffk110 on there. its addicting
I love Zite.
It’s a personalised magazine that updates daily. You choose the subjects for your home page and it collates the stories from those on the net. It even learns what you like and don’t like as you go along, creating more relevant content.
Simple and brilliant.
My favorite: SoundHound
let your iphone listen to a song for a few seconds, and it will look it up, tell you all the pertinent info about it, give you scrolling lyrics and let you buy it.
I didn’t want to include wordswithfriends on my list…I’m currently in rehab for it.
need4speed305 - if your looking for a showdown!

X2
My most used app.
Thanks for this recommendation. I had been using fluentnews but Zite sounds better.
Im addicted to the following, both on the ipad and iphone.
Order and Chaos* (Like world of warcraft on your idevice, dear god ive used many hours)
flipboard* nice design of things you like to read.
4-in-1 timer*, im a chef and love having 4 eggtimers
paypal* for obvious reason
Andrew Johnson apps a hypnotherapist with many different apps, and that guy can put me in a coma. Great for winding down.
Runpacecalc* good run split calculator
Running:
‘Pacemaker’ is good. Dial in a pace and see what your times will be for different distances. Dial in a distance and time you have already done and it works out your likely times for other distances too. It is surprisingly accurate for me, quoting my PB;s within about 10 seconds for shorter distances.
Triathlon
‘TriCalc’ Somewhat pointless but I tend to use it a lot. Got s goal for your next tri? Dial in the figures and work out where you can gain / lose time. Has helped me plan for races.
Shazam (listens to songs and tells you what it is)
The Converter (converts measurements to different units)
Angry Birds
.
Fine, here is mine:
Here’s my list:
Lose It - Great for quickly and easily tracking calories
Score Center - Sports scores for my favorite teams with one tap
DirectTV, Remote and Direct VR - For cuing up content while on my trainer when I can’t reach or find the remotes
Flixster - Movie times at my favorite saved theaters (and/or nearby theaters)
Spotify - Music based on my mood
Soundhound (x2) - Shazam did the whole music recognition first, Soundhound did it better
Garmin USA - Turn by turn GPS directions just like a Garmin Nuvi. Saved me from buying a $2000 option on my last car and REALLY handy while traveling.
Garmin Tracker - follow my wife during her running events (requires a GTU10)
TripIt - All my travel confirmations (air, rental car, hotel, etc) in one place.
Traffic.com - Automated traffic reports customized for my usual commutes and saved roadways. Reports are pushed to me when there’s a problem.
mSecure - Saves credit card numbers, frequent flyer numbers, passwords, etc in one place
Dropbox - It just rocks. I keep training plans, frequently used docs from work - all kinds of crap - in my DB and have them available everywhere.
Scanner Pro - Turn any document into a PDF via the camera. Useful as hell at work.
Star Walk - VERY geeky, but very cool.
Is dropbox like iCloud?
Yes, but cross-platform and better (IMHO). You install it on your iPhone, iPad, iWhatever and also on your Mac(s) and/or PC(s). It puts a “dropbox” folder on your computer(s) and any file you drop into that folder (on any machine) instantly appears on all your other devices and computers. Change the file in one place and it changes in all others.
In theory, it’s very similar to Apple’s iCloud document synchronization, but iCloud only works with Apple’s apps (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) and a few iDevice apps that have incorporated it. Dropbox works on almost anything (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Blackberry etc.) and also includes a web interface in case you’re really in need of access when you’re away from your own technology.
I have it installed on my iPhone, iPad, work PC and home Mac. If I’m working on a budget at work and want to finish it at home, I drop the Excel file in Dropbox and it’s waiting for me at home. It’s also available on my iDevices if I’m sitting in a meeting and want to reference the file.
Good stuff.
So it sounds like a more universal app that isn’t limited to only one source. Does it use a 3rd party storage system like iCloud does?
Kind of. Your stuff is stored on Dropbox’s servers (2GB free, with modest charges for more space). But everything is also stored simultaneously on your computers and devices. It’s really more of a synchronization service than a storage service. That’s another reason why I like it - if the system goes belly up then copies of my files are still sitting nicely on both of my computers at any moment in time.
