I am seeking a new running/gps/heart rate monitor watch. I will be returning my Nike + GPS watch, which was a fantastic design and easy to use but completely unreliable in terms of uploading data among other things. Too bad, but I imagine that future models will work the bugs out. But in the meantime I need something that works now. Here is my wish list:
Easy to use - I loved the simplicity of the Nike. Very similar to apple products
I’ve been quite happy with my Garmin 310xt. I like the software that comes with it (Training Center). It automatically starts transferring the workout data to my PC when I get in my garage (even before re-entering the house). I also like the fact that it automatically uploads the workout data to my free Garmin Connect account. I bought the quick release kit, so I can use it on my bike or put it under my swim cap for open water swims or tris. For a great, detailed review, go to http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2009/09/garmin-forerunner-310xt-in-depth-review.html .
Best looking? Nope.
Bulky? Not too bad. A bit tough to fit under a wetsuit, but I wear it under my swim cap so that’s not an issue for me.
User friendly (ala apple products)? I’d say yes. I find the menus easy enough to figure out and navigate through.
I think it’s probably the best watch for what you’re looking for.
I have had the Forerunner 305 for 5 years and it has been a workhorse…truly flawless performance. If and when it quits on me, I would quickly have the 310.
I really like my Timex Global thingy, works great some areas maybe not as good as the Garmin and some areas better in my opinion. Check out “DCRAINMAKER” blog the best reviews I have read. Then decide what you like or don’t like.

My 305 has been acting up (2 yrs old) so I got a new one. I could not justify the extra cost of the 310 for the little benefits. Nevertheless, I’m stoked w/my 305.
Love my 310xt. Works with ant+ devices like power meters and such, easy to use, has triathlon (multisport) setting that easily switches between swim/bike/run and even includes T1 and T2. I have the quick release kit for mine also…works like a charm. Only gripe: kind of sucks for the swim unless you put it under your cap, but thats to be expected with GPS anyhow…doesn’t work underwater.
