Honest advice … I was you. I sat on a couple bikes, thought I knew what was right. Then bought a P2 at a LBS who did a bad job fitting me. A month after that I was miserable riding. I went back to original shop, same results.
Best thing I did was drive to Brooklyn and visit Acme Bikes. Jonathan is a really down to earth guy who is really professional and a great athlete. He spent over 3 hours with me on an ill fitting Cervelo and he somehow made it work great for me with a lot of adjustments. I just wish I went to him first before buying. His fit service started by a physical exam, then flexibility, then on his fit bike, We dialed in a very good position for me that I was super comfortable in which was much more aggressive than my old position. Finally he dialed in my existing bike.
I’m sure he can fit you on his fit bike then tell you the ideal frame for your body type and budget, then dial you in
Not sure where you are, but John Strom at Cyclefitters in Easton, PA (close to NJ border) is EXCELLENT. I used him and sent my husband and 3 other friends there – everyone has been thrilled. He has been doing it a long time and knows his stuff. I am biking faster than ever, due in part to my great fit. I cannot recommend him enough. For reference, I have had 3-5 professional fits done (depending on what you count) in 20 years of racing.
Just FYI, Cyclesport does not carry Cervelo’s to my knowledge if that is what you decided you want. They may be able to special order anything but it won’t be in their shop. As far as fitting goes, they are great and the staff is really helpful as well. You will get top notch customer service.
A couple of the recomendations are a bit farther then I would like to travel. If I need a tune up or bike issue, I would prefer to be a little closer to home.
Easy:
Option #1: Eric at high gear in stirling
2: signature cycles in NYC, see Blake
3: email me for a personal contact that will be the best fit ever.
You don’t have to get fit where you buy the bike. Fit is too important to get it wrong.
I’m buying a new Cervelo bike in the next month. I want to purchase it from a bike shop that does a great bike fittings.
So far I have on my list…
Cyclesports in Park Ridge, NJ (20 minutes from me)
Strictly Bicycles in Fort Lee, NJ (45 minutes from me)
Please share your recommendations and any feedback.
Thanks!
Eric
My bike shop is Harts Bikes in Pennington, on Rt 31 close to Princeton. Ross Hart is the owner and he is a Cervelo dealer and they always have a few in stock. Take a look at their website including their “fitting” page. Besides being my shop, many local triathletes use them. If you decide to check them out, tell Ross (or Oscar, his #2), Michael recommended and he’ll take care of you. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.
If you can find this guy Dave Greenfield he is the best.
Where is he now ? I have no idea??? But if you find him you have caught the proverbial unicorn of the fitting world
