Just thought I would give the girls some equal time on this topic. I have to admit, that I really don’t know who would fit that category. I see lots of women run sub 3:15 or 3:20, but are any running the 3 hr flat range of the girls of yesterday??? All time I give it to Erin Baker, Lori Boden a close second, and Paula third, but who out there is consistant under 3:10 or 3:05, and wins races??? Let’s please talk legit courses too…
Lisa Bentley 100%
.
SO you think Lisa would be ahead of Natasha?? I don’t know really, I think Natasha has run 3:08 or close in Hawaii, and that was for a win. Does lisa win other Ironmans, I really haven’t followed her career that much…Or is she someone that just runs into podium spots from behind??? ANy splits on her???
lisa as ran 2:59 before and a few 3h marathon at ironman…but more than often as to make her way back from a slower swim bike combination… but shge sure is one of the top runner off the bike…
OUPS… official time was 3:01 in australia 2006 even if she said she had 2:59 on her watch!!! still ok run!!!
Her bike has really come along.
Take a look at the string of 1st’s she has.
I think we’d have to include Heather in there.

Not in the current crop of girls, but historically, I’d put her between 5th to 10th best…Puntous twins would be after my other 3 top picks, and maybe Karen Smyers. Not sure what her best Ironman run splits were though, but she certainly won a few…
Bentley is a star with 10 Ironman wins, here is a sample of 2006 results.
Ironman Canada Aug 2006 - 2nd place
09:28:18 BENTLEY LISA 58:50 5:17:40 3:08:17
Ironman Kona 2006 - 3rd place
09:25:18 Bentley, Lisa 1:01:31 5:10:32 3:08:54
She outran Michellie by almost 5 mins and Desiree by 3 minutes at Kona 2006.

No doubt that she rocks the run, but Natasha has run 3:08, and while winning Hawaii, so who gets the nod, 1st, or 3rd??? I suppose you have to quantify the time frame we are talking about here. I take current to mean, last 4 or 5 years or so…

4-5 years is a pretty big spread! Why can’t current be now?

It certainly can be, but this season so far, last season??? I just use a few more years to get a bigger sample size, and we can compare more head to head battles, while throwing out the odd great/horrible performances…
Rebecca Preston who ran a 3:05 in Kona in 2005 after a 5:10 bike. too bad she races so many IM, since it would be amazing to see her race Kona fresh.

Wow, that is some rare air for womens running in Hawaii. Have to confess that I don’t know her, how did she do???

Impressive, but more in the Sergio’s category…Need to teach that girl how to swim and ride a little faster…
11th overall. she is the one who won Switzerland 2006, and then the next weekend won Austria…holding off Bowden for a 9:12 win. she also just won Switzerland last week.
good article here on her.
plus I think she is only 26 years old.
I would have to say Lori, Lisa then Heather. I am Canadian but really in recent years these have been the top three. Natasha is great but she only runs for the win and does not need to bust a move on the run to catch up.
I think if you took the top 20 run times for an Ironman women in the last 10 years, the three Canadian women would have at least 10 of the spots. Well maybe but I think I am pretty close with my guestimate.

Sounds like a challenge to one of our stats junkies here, there you go guys…
