Best elastic lace system

My 6-year-old son has some IronKids races coming up and he hates the lace locks so I thought maybe some elastic laces might be in order. Does anyone have any comments or recommendations on the best elastic lace system?

I like Yanks! but they sometimes get too tight around the top of the shoe(which bothers my instep), instead of being equally tight throughout. Occasional adjustment remedies this problem.

Tried Yankz, had some problems with the way they felt. Been using these for the last 2 seasons. Can’t find anything better. Thicker laces than Yanks. Setup once, then just slip on the shoes. Cheaper than Yankz too.

I’ve got Yankz on all my shoes, regardless of “transition issues”. I just like the way they feel better than regular laces.

I put them on my boys’ shoes, but then realized they’d never learn to tie shoes, so I took them off (they’re 5 and 6). But, they loved 'em for the few days they got to use 'em!

I’m glad this question comes up every so often because I get to prove how cheap and uncool I am. I use sewing elastic from a discount store. Double it, lace it like you want it, tie it in a bow and leave a couple inches to spare. After running in them I always need to loosen them about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Once it’s right, I tie a hard knot, cut off the excess and never think about it again.

I’ve used the expensive laces but nothing works any better for me.

I use easy laces and have been happy w/ them. The lock laces look promising also. In fact, they look very similar to easy laces. Didn’t like the yanks.

I use the same “system” except I just by elastic cord buy the foot at Wal Mart - it’s even cheaper and you don’t have to double it.

That’s what I buy, except I have to get it in packages in the sewing department rather than by the foot. Something like $.49 for a package that would do two pairs of shoes, but I always lose the excess before I buy new shoes. I tried the thicker stuff that didn’t have to be doubled but it was too strong for my taste. I like my shoes fairly loose.

“Knotty Boys”. I’m not sure who carries them in your area but I got mine at Boulder Running Company in Boulder. They’re awesome, but hard to explain. They’re elastic fibers wrapped in a cloth lace. They way they’re formed, there’s a bulg/knot every 1/2" which smoothes out when you stretch it. With all the knots they can be fine tuned for tension at each lace loop. Loose at the top, tight at the problem, no problem! Once they’re on and adjusted you never have to touch them. Just slide the shoe on. I’ve used them on road and trail, racing and training. Highly recommend 'em.

I use the curly-q laces from Wal-Mart. About 97 cents. Lace them in and don’t worry about them again. Hold comfortably snug. No problems.
