Best to start with some group rides with Richardson Bike Mart on Campbell. They do lots of rides in North Dallas.
Mad Duck bike shops for more NW Dallas/Mid Cities.
RBM South Ride for SE Dallas (best hard/fast ride in Dallas)
Training - try loop around TX Motor Speedway
Pretty good cycling through Southlake area. Dallas has pretty extensive trail system but can get really crowded in white rock and Katy trail area.
A lot of the bike rallies will be starting up in a couple of months. I do almost all of the ones on the west side of the metroplex. Great country roads with minimal traffic.
The advice about riding with RBM is good. Also check out Knobbies and Slicks group rides out of Keller.
Have you looked at the strava heatmap for DFW? I’m not a huge strava fan, but this is probably the “best” use of the data they collect:

You can see where everyone else is riding.
I live east of McKinney, so I tend to ride north of 380 between Melissa, Anna, and Farmersville. Its pretty low on traffic, and I’ve had good luck with rural drivers being considerate. No problem getting in 50+ without looping or out/back (unless you like that sorta thing). Some decent terrain (for NE texas anyway), scenery, and variety of route options, so you don’t end up doing the exact same ride week after week.
Edit: I routinely see the local teams/group rides out this way: RBB, Cadence Cyclery, Plano Cyclery, etc. There are quite a few other cyclists out on any given sunday.

I’m out in Weatherford. Besides the peach pedal, what are some west dfw rallies?
Goatneck in Cleburn is one of the most popular. A lot of roadies show up to it, it seems.
If you narrow down your area a bit, we might be able to help out more. Looking for weekday or weekend routes? I live in Carrollton and ride mostly up towards Frisco/Celina/Weston.
Frisco has one of the largest and best run road cycling groups in the area with Shawnee Trails. All rides are no-drop, assigned ride leaders, multiple pace groups for all rides, 7 ride times, 6 days a week (No Friday, 2x Sunday). However if you ride a tri bike you’re not allowed to use the aero bars, ever. Just an FYI.

I’m also a member of the Frisco Tri Club. I usually only make the Saturday or Sunday workouts though, due to not living that close.

Bummer. That’s a shame. I haven’t paid close attention this year yet to start registering. I hope the others are still on.
That’s too bad about the Aledo Heroes ride. I’ve only done it once, but it was a well run effort, with what seemed like great support from the community. It’s a great ride, and I hope they return.
I live down in Granbury and this is a growing ride down here:

I ride these back country roads just about weekly, and while there is some rough chipseal, I really enjoy the hills, country air etc…
I’ve also done Goat neck, and enjoyed it as well.
Thanks. Using the STRAVA heatmap to check out the north and south sides of Lake Grapevine. On the southside of Grapevine Lake it seems - per the heat map - that one can make their way out to Pelican Bay (?) . On the northside, it seems like the best routes head north to Deaton and up to Roberts Lake (?). Is this safe riding terrain? Comments welcome.
Might need to do a vehicle recon. Thanks.
Anyone doing the hotter n hell this year? I’m signed up.
I can find a couple rides on Strava for you tomorrow. I used to ride from Coppell out through flower mound and up towards Bartonville. Lots of quiet roads out there and plenty of cyclists too. Haven’t gone all the way out to Denton though. There’s a decent loop around dfw as well.

I ride in that general area…sent you a PM
There’s a Saturday morning group ride from Playtri in Colleyville that heads toward Lake Grapevine
.
With all the traffic now a days go to Celina high school and ride north on 205 until you get to the Brookshire Brothers. We used to do a ride that started in Frisco and pretty much went to Oklahoma for a 100 mile ride but traffic was getting bad with everyone moving north. Last time I rode on it 205 had some nice big shoulders and not much traffic. But bring water since there are only a few places to fill up (thinking 2 in total)

I’ve done from Keller out to Eagle Mountain Lake but never to Pelican Bay. So can’t comment there. But always felt safe riding out on Blue Mound to Peden to get there.
And I’ve been looking for a way to get from that area to Denton and the roads I’ve driven on never seemed safe for cyclists. I know some who bike 377 but too many maniacs for me.
The Strava heat map is great. Didn’t know about that feature. Looks like some back roads could get you up there going through Flower Mound area. I’ll have to do a car recon as you said.
Here are a couple routes I’ve done before that were pretty good.
Starting in Coppell, south through Las Colinas then out through Flower Mound towards Bartonville. I really enjoy the part north of 121 the most. There’s a gas station at Shiloh Road & Cross Timbers Pkwy (~mile 48) that is a quite popular stop for cyclist.

Starting in Southlake, around Lake Grapevine and DFW. Someone mentioned they don’t like riding on 377. I would agree with that, however there is a wide shoulder so it’s doable. I would note that I was only on 377 this one time and it was around 7-7:30am on a Sunday morning so very little traffic.

Depending on where you work, I also do a casual ride on Tuesday nights from Las Colinas if you’re interested. Or if you want to explore out north of Frisco just shoot me a PM, we’ll set something up.

I’m particularly bummed about Ride for Heroes, as the route starts right by my house. I’ve read that it is going to be back next year, so that’s something to anticipate.
