Best crank for Tri bike? Which one?

.

Zipp VumaChrono, no question (good luck finding one though). Second place goes to the Bora Ultra.

The only things that affect how fast a crank is are the bearings, which typically only vary by about half a watt, and you can put faster bearings in any crankset’s bottom bracket.

The other thing is aerodynamics. There are a few cranks out there, like the Vision aero crankset, The Campy aero crankset, that have aero shaped crank arms and chainrings. These might save you a few seconds over 40k.

However you can put an aero chainring on any crankset and save like $500.

We used the FSA Gossamer crank (the cheapest you can buy) with hawk racing bottom bracket (for that half watt) and an aero chainring on the state champ’s TT bike this year. Fabian Cancellara also used to use the gossamer crank because it felt better to him than the carbon cranks FSA had at the time (probably madness, but the point is, cranks don’t matter)

If money and aesthetics are of no concern, then the new Vision crankset might be a couple seconds faster:

You can get a 105 crankset really cheap. I hear the shimano chainrings are known to shift better than some. I couldn’t tell any different in the shape and design compared to ultegra. I got mine for about $140 when I wanted to try out 165mm crank length.

Those are a nice option as well, yep. I have those on my bike
