Best cold weather socks for running and biking

I have been using swiftwick. With it cooling off I’m looking to pick up a couple of new pair. Thanks

Smartwool. Lots of choices in design, some color choices. Not great for ultracold without something more, but great for when it’s cool enough that the summer socks are too cold. Like now. But my feet are always hot when running. cold when biking, so smartwool gets me though the winter on the run. I wear smartwool and shoe covers on the bike when it gets cold.

Normal athletic socks all year long and shoe covers when cycling in winter. Never had any issues with normal athletic socks so never tried those special ones.

Do your feet actually get cold while running? I’ve run down to -10F with the socks I use in the summer. For cycling, the biggest mistake you could make would be to get some thicker socks and then stuff them into the same shoes you wear barefoot or with thin socks in the summer. I use the same socks year round but add shoe covers for the winter.

Swiftwick makes a wool sock that I use for cycling. Wearing them right now around the house. I run in their zero - one line throughout the winter. No issue.

giordana merino wool socks. i wear them up to 80 F. In the winter, two pairs are comfortable down to the 20’s

I wear smartwool in the winter, but the socks aren’t any thicker than my normal summer socks. For cycling I do wear toe covers.

Smartwool or Icebreaker merino wool socks. They get me throw wet and very cold winters. I have significant Raynaud’s in my feet, and I can run in anything wearing those without it being triggered.

I find the Swiftwick wool socks too thick, and I get holes from my toe nails - though I love their summer socks. Smartwools tend to wear out fast. So, I’m seeking durable and thin wool socks. Suggestions?

I get the 4 pack of merino wool hiking socks they sell at Costco for like $10. They’ve kept my feet warm while running in -20 degree weather. I will also wear them with my winter MTB boots and never had any issues in that temperature.

Smartwool hiking socks.

Not sure there is such a thing.
Icebreaker makes thinner wool socks, but I don’t know how durable those are.
Wigwam?

+1 on Smartwool. You can find a lot of different styles and thickness for whatever you need. I enjoyed 2 different pairs during IM Tahoe. I have a couple of Swiftwick and agree with a previous post that they are too thick.

I really like the Pearl Izumi Elite tall wool socks for cool/cold weather riding. Really comfy socks.

I used to get smartwool socks all the time. They’re super comfy but I find they don’t last very long at all.

Are the socks thick or relatively thin?

I ask because thick socks fit tight in mt cycling shoes and make my feet colder than thin wool socks.

Smartwools use to be great maybe 10 years ago but lately their quality has gone to hell. They are nice, warm and comfy when new but they quickly turn to crap. They go thread bare and get holes fast bIt sucks they are expensive too!

http://darntough.com/. I dig these socks. They are what smartwool use to be. Great from running

They’re not super thin like some of the more “technical” socks out there. Thicker than standard cotton summer cycling socks, but they’re not thick IMO. They feel more dense to me than something like a Smartwool.

I use both the Elite and the Elite Thermal. I can’t really tell much of a difference, both are wool.
