Best bike short for woman?

looking to buy a good longlasting bike short for the wife with good padding. i love the de soto stuff but have never heard any women chime in about the womans 400 mile short. opinions? any other good choices? thanks ken

I have the women’s 400 short- its fabulous- pretty much like every other de soto product i have ever tried…

“looking to buy a good longlasting bike short for the wife with good padding.”

are you looking for a good longlasting bike short with good padding for the wife, or does the wife with good padding need a good longlasting bike short?

can i plead the fifth???

actually she tried the specialized comp short on and they did not have her size and she like that pad, i told her how much i love the desoto and their price is 20 or so cheaper and i was just looking for a few more opinions thanks ken
.

I have a lot of models:

Pearl Izumi: 3d: like the padding and are llonglasting, but dislike the model (too high, I prefer low raise- I look like my grandma with that) (about $120)

She Beest: My BEST pick: I’ve wear them for 3 years now (same pair), rode a tons of mile with them, and are still very comfy, and not used. excellent affordable choice. (about $90)

Louis Garneau: Bad choice, bad quality of padding and material (but these were the cheapers, so it can be why…). Also, they are too high. (about $60)

I also have some bibs, but I’ll pass my comments on that. Not useful at all, except for spinning.

Good luck!

A year ago I couldn’t have answered this as I thought the shorts didn’t matter and you were just supposed to be miserable on a bike. I have been enlightened, shorts really do make a difference. I love my SheBeest shorts! They are so comfortable and are wearing really well. The Performance shorts have a very similar pad, but are showing a lot of wear after just one season.

My husband and I both wear the 400 miles shorts. The only problems for me is my height. I am short and the bike shorts are longer than I prefer, but the fit(except for the length) is great and the shorts last. PI mid to upper line shorts are good, too. PI shorts are shorter, but loose the shape faster than the 400 mile shorts which have never lost their shape with a year of riding.

I’ve worn several other brands, but nothing stood out where I continued to purchase other than PI and Desoto.

Check out the Sugoi RS Flex. Very comfortable and a nice pad.

Hi, i’ve been cycling for over 18years and have tried every bike short manufactured; assos, castelli, pearl izumi, descente, etxeondo, hincapie … etc. The best bike short that has fit me well on 200+ mile rides is an unknown brand made by Shiela Moon that I bought from Team Estrogen. The padding is incredible and the waste band extremely comfortable. It is an 8 panel cutout, wider wasteband, longer in back, shorter in front. Here’s a couple website you can look at; http://www.teamestrogen.com, http://www.sheilamoon.com/

Finding the right cycling short and saddle is a very personal thing.

Tri bike or road bike? Cause it makes a difference to me.

Tri bike: DeSoto power shorts (or whatever they are called now). Never shorts with a bunch of padding.

Road bike: I like Pearl Izumi. Will have to try the DeSoto 400 mile shorts. But I suppose I’ll be wearing whatever our team kit is.

i personally ride in crafts and LOVE them. the stretch chamois is really great. i worked at a bike shop for a number of years and a lot of the girls liked shebeast. they were too much of a curvy fit for me. good for women with curves, not good for women with straight hips. they both have the stretch chamois which differentiates them from pearl and a lot of the others, but i think craft has much better materials for the actual short part. make sure she gets a pair that fits too. too tight or too lose will make the best shorts not work, and women especially seem to drift towards one extreme or the other in terms of fit. good luck!

Tri Shorts - Sugoi Blast Tri Short, only $40 and they fit in all the right places and move with you. I wear these for any race 1/2 Iron or less or approx. 65 miles…anything over 65 miles I need more padding.

Ironman distance shorts - Etxenodo Sann Short or Helda Short, Jaggad Cycling Short (smaller sizing is the only problem), Pearl Izumi 3D. I also have a pair of She-Beast and the material is the most comfortable material I’ve worn next to my skin and these have a thin/medium thickness for the pad.

I am very picky about my shorts, I need the waist band to be non-constricting, the length of the short to be 6" vs. the 7 or 8" styles with a low rise waist vs. the granny panty look. I also like a pad that is medium in thickness and moves and conforms to the body. Sounds high maintenance, but if I am going to ride in these for 5-8 hours, I want to be comfortable.
