Best bike shop in Chicago?

I am looking for a GOOD bike shop, tri bike specificly, in the Chicago area. A place that can do a good bike fit and sell me the right size bike shoes. I have tried a place close to me, they seemed to know less than I did about proper fit, and that’s hard to do. I am willing to drive to find a good place so anywhere in the CHI area is fine.

I have had good luck with Get-A-Grip and Endure It.

X2 for Get A Grip. Bought my tri bike there, and when I need service that I can’t do myself I’ll gladly make the 45 min drive to the shop. Got fit by Adam before I made the purchase - they built it up to spec based on that fitting, I picked it up and took it for a long ride the next day. It was like it was built for me - which I guess it was in a way. They remember your name and look out for you for the long haul, not just for a sale.

I will check out get a grip. Thanks a 1000

Another strong recommendation for Get a grip! Ask for Adam

You’re welcome. Hope you find it worth the trip - great guys and great shop. I go to the Irving Park shop rather than the fit studio in the loop.

I would recommend 2 different places.

If you are interested in coming out to the burbs, I would go to Lucky Brake Bicycles, in Crystal Lake and see Karrie. She has amazing bike knowledge and is a certified BG Fitter which is the best fitting I have ever had.

If you want to stay in the city, then you should visit MOX. Serious tri store and great guys.

Hope it helps.

Get a Grip is solid for sure. I like the Urban Tri Gear guys, they go beyond the norm to make sure you are successfull and happy. I would go to their Burr Ridge shop vs. Westmont.

X2 on Mox.

I second the recommendation for Urban Tri Gear-specifically their Burr Ridge shop. Laid back guys who know their stuff and did a great job when I purchased my bike and have been really helpful with everything else I have asked for regarding service, maintenance, and more components. I could be wrong, but if my memory serves me correct, they carry a lot of Litespeed and Specialized stuff in the shop, but they’ve always been willing to order whatever I was looking for.

I work at the Kozy’s Bikes in River North and we have a really good selection of tri bikes. Cannondale, Specialized, Quintana Roo, are the main brands that we carry. We also use the BG Fit system as well as our new Guru DFU machine. Our fitters are great and fitting is included on all tri bike purchases.

I know people think that we are just the shop where their parents “bought the old ten speed,” but our staff are all knowledgeable and many of us race. Don’t count us out!

I also vote Get A Grip. I’ve bought three bikes (road, tri and cross) there as well as race wheels. I’ve strayed to another shop (one that is not mentioned in this thread as of yet), and was treated as if my money didn’t spend the same way other folk’s money spends…so I’m back as a Get a Grip customer.

Although I’ve never purchased a bike at this other shop, there is also Element who I understand have just opened an Oak Park shop in addition to their Chicago Shop - - I’ve heard they are good.

bike shop Glen Ellyn. Drew is a genius.

Get a grip for sure.

They are really laid back good guys and always make sure that you are taken care of. Adam does a great job with the fits at the downtown studio.

The Bike Shop GE is great if your willing to go outside the city. I got a really good fit from Rich, the owner. He was able to use some creativity to fit a bike that was slightly too large for me.
