I can’t believe no one has mentioned Cannondale’s crankset. It may not be in the aero weenie category, but is certainly one of the best BB30 cranksets out there.
not to threadjack but can a bb30 and mego exo crankset be interswapped?
I’ve got a mego exo BB but alot of online retailers dont list the BB compatibility. I havent seen a store yet that list a crankset as a gxp.
you can get an adapter to use a threaded / megaexo crank with a BB30 bottom bracket, but not the other way around. the BB30 spindle won’t fit in a standard BB.
also, if this is the question you’re asking, i’m pretty sure megaexo (FSA), GXP (SRAM), and shimano’s equivalent are all basically the same thing.
so the shimano hollowtech 2 crankset can be mounted to a mego exo also?
i like with fsa & sram systems I actually wouldnt mind a FSA SL-K crankset, but i’m running 105’s shifters and fd and rd and i’d like to keep it all shimano
well…maybe. quick google search suggests that the FSA BBs that are made for aluminum cranks (e.g. gossamer) will work with shimano cranks but those made for carbon cranks might not…you should probably look into that. the BBs are made for the same frame but maybe they aren’t totally interchangeable with respect to cranks.
prattzc: i just got a 2011 slice 4. crank is the aluminum version of the vision trimax BB30 and the rest of the components are SRAM rival. it shifts pretty well. SRAM and shimano derailleurs, chains, cassettes, and cranks are basically interchangeable, so i can’t see why there would be much of a difference unless you’re talking about using it with different BBs.
and FWIW, the aluminum vision crank seems pretty solid, but i’ve only used it a few times so far.
Crank arm material has no relationship to the type of BB used it is wholly dependent on the specific system of the crankset regardless of material. BB30 cranks are only compatible with a BB30 frame, it uses a 30mm aluminum spindle and the bearings are pressed into the shell. Shimano and FSA Mega Exo are for all intended purposes the same basic system and use a 24mm steel spindle in threaded cups that screw into a 68mm wide shell. SRAM GXP is different than the other two aforementioned systems. Though it also uses a 24mm steel spindle and bearings mounted in threaded cups that screw into a 68mm wide shell, it differs in that the non drive side of the spindle is stepped down to 22mm so that the shoulder that is created by the narrower end butts up against the inner race of the non drive side bearing and is effectively located by the bearing and the drive side floats. Adapters are available to use either Shimano/FSA and SRAM cranks with BB30 frames but not the other way around.
yeah the latest generation of cheap ass vision cranksets are as good as anything really. Not much sane reason to change except to start dropping weight.
I’ve seen them win a state championship.

The Specialized FACT carbon cranks will work with BB30 as well. From what I have read, they are essentially the same as the Lightning cranks. They also have a removable spider like the Cannondale Hollowgram cranks that would let you put a Quarq or SRM on later on or switch from standard to compact rings.
