Best bang for the buck on cycling shorts for aero position

Good Morning,

I was hoping to take advantage of the sales coming up and was wondering who makes the best chamois pad for aero position training. I have a tri kit for races.
Most of the cycling shorts I have seem more for road type position with padding up higher than where would be most useful in aero.

Thank you,

Chad

Desoto’s tribib. Holds everything where it needs to be quite nicely. It has been my experience that more padding isn’t going to solve the issue. Less moving around of the junk makes me more comfortable.

This is such an individualized answer that I doubt what works for one would work for another. That said, though I am a road racer, I spend a lot of time training in an aero position for both IAB and TT bike workouts. I like the Craft Tour bibs quite a bit, which runs about $65 shipped from vendors in Europe. I also like the padding on my Castelli Bodypaint skinsuit, but shorts equipped with similar chamois may be more expensive. Also, generous servings of chamois cream helps.

It’s going to depend on which saddle you are running also. Some saddles have no padding, while others have a lot. A padded saddle with a padded short can get all bunched up and it is not comfortable…

With my ISM 1.1 I prefer very little padding in the shorts

Thanks guys,
I race in castelli and use gore for my long rides.
I have the specialized power pro saddle so not much for padding there. I use generous amounts of. Chamois butt’r.
I just received some santec and PI quest shorts that seem decent for the money, but the padding seems a bit high in back for aero.
I like the nice padding for training I just wondered if anybody made a short for training in aero. I’ll have to take a look at desoto seems like top notch gear from what I read.

Right there, that’s the winner. Padding be damned, at this point my ass might as well be made of leather. Keeping the boys from moving around or slipping to an uncomfortable spot keeps me in aero longer.

+1 Desoto gear. Great stuff.
