I’m in the midst of a huge wheel change potentially. Have tubie race hoops, clincher OpenPro trainers. Would like to get a PT rear/cover and a decent clincher front for race day.
ideas? My big kicker is that I won’t ride anything with a carbon braking surface, has to be alum. That’s about it…thanks.
I’ve been quite happy with my Sram S60. Right about 500 bucks for a decently deep well shaped wheel.

…/thread before all you jet9/zipp808 people get in here
.
Just went through the same situation. I already had a disc cover but wanted an aero front so I did some research and decided I most likely wanted one with the patented toroidal profile if I could afford it and so then I did a very quick best price check (just used yahoo shopping so I’m certain cheaper prices could be found with enough searching) and here is what I came up with
Clincher
HED Jet 6- $750 774g
HED Jet 6 Flamme Rouge- $975 728g
HED Jet 9- $800 809g
HED Jet 9 Flamme Rouge- $1000 760g
Zipp 404- $1035 772g
Zipp 808- $1125 902g
Zipp 1080- $1215 1112g
Sram S60- $497 830g
Sram S80- $530 951g
Flashpoint 60-$650 854g
Flashpoint 80-$650 957g
Also looked at Real Design and Planet-X (for tubular), but I couldn’t pass up the deal on the Sram wheel (on Amazon.com, Niagara Cycle Works). My Sram S80 just arrived yesterday and I can’t wait to try it out.
One of the late-90s Shamal HPW-12 Titanium. Super fast wheel, plus it looks absolutely fantastic, and you get retro points.

You can usually find pretty cheap H3’s in the classifieds. Love mine.

Ha, that’s the picture of my shamals I sold on ebay a while back. fucking campy cassette body. also, the 16 spoke version is a bit stiffer, if you care about that.
