Best Aerobars for maximal "low and narrow" positioning

I currently use a Vision aerobar, stock model on P2Cs from '08. I ride a 51 cm bike. My elbow pad spacing is 19 cm, center of pad to center of pad. I’m a very compact rider and need to get narrower (and lower). There is one more notch to narrow the pad spacing on the Visions, but it comes at the expense of raising me up at least 1 to 2 cm. I like to have my hands touching at the end of my bars, so I’m talking about going very, very narrow.

What is on the market that will give me good aerodynamics from the bar itself, while also getting me in the position I need?

I was looking for something similar, and ended up with the new Uberhund Blitz bars. They have a nicer s-bend that rotates inward, compared to the Eastons, and have the boundary control surface for smooth air flow (like the Ridley Dean). I have been super impressed.

Heres a pic of them on my new Plasma:

Sonic CSX is the best for very low and narrow, IMO.
Not very adjustable, but if it works for you these are perfect.
Here is what my setup looks like:

They could be about 1cm narrower, depending on the width of your stem.

And basically sit on top of your basebar.

I am doing similar, the PD Sonic CSX but with the Vision Alloy base bar with vision levers. The vision base bar is hard to beat for price and aero as well as weight, its lighter than most carbon

I have a pair of modified Profile Cx1.5. Chopped off the upturns for the brake levers for added aero, then turned around the mounting brackets for the pads to get them touching each other. Pad center to center is 10.5 cm. My forearms have a slight gap (1-2 cm) with my hands together on the shifters.

you can take out the risers, they are not completely necessary. just have to be careful not to overtighten, or better yet, make a small shim to fill the slight gap between the cups abd the extensions. teh cups won’t hit the basebars, close ,but won’t touch. this will get you to ~15+/-cm center to center with those. narrower and you will need something else. I went with hed corsairs, they can get much narrower, but not very wide. so, maybe th hed fliplites which are what come with corsairs. do have more stack height though

Easton Attack TT.

X2. not very adjustable…but if they work for you, they are low, narrow and lighter than anything else out there.

+1 on the Easton Attack. I’d recommend the “Large” extension length for most folks, as the Small is really short.

What do you have on the grips for the aerobars and the basebar? I like the look of it…it doesn’t look like tape. I’m looking for something similar and really low profile for my setup.

I tried bar wrap originally, but due to the short length of my basebar handholds, I ended up with about an inch of barwrap and an inch of black tape to finish it.
Very slippery with wet hands and looked ridiculous.
The track grips look great and are so grippy that they almost cut your hands.
They stay white with a good scrubbing too.

I’ve thought about using track grips before. Did you have to remove the shifters and brake levers to get the grips in place? Seems like it would be a big pain in the butt just to get those things on…

I’ve installed them both ways. It’s relatively easy with the shifters/levers removed.
It’s a PITA with them still on, but definitely possible with lots of lube, patience and a little ingenuity.

I like my easton attacks 09 model, plenty low and almost too narrow.

I had the same bike and size I used the oval concepts A900 bar and was very pleased.
The Hed classic will give you the same position and limitless adjustment.

There is one more notch to narrow the pad spacing on the Visions, but it comes at the expense of raising me up at least 1 to 2 cm.

assuming you’re running a -17° stem, deda has a -23° stem, and ritchey has both a -30° stem and a -45° adjustable stem.

this should take care of your problem.

Yikes on a similar note can someone help me figure out the Oval Concepts adjustable stem? I have at present and eleven81 -35D drop stem in 130mm length. I want to go lower and wonder about the Oval Concepts that says theirs range from 90 to 150 degrees?? Where are they taking the angles because if the 90 is just 6 degrees above the typical 84/6 stem that raises your bars up from horizontal (compared to the 73/17 which will have the stem horizontal) then how much lower should I be getting using the following site: http://alex.phred.org/stemchart/Default.aspx

I am thinking of using the 140mm length that Oval Concepts advertises.

To the original poster, I use the Easton Attack integrated bars and they’re light and strong but with no adjustment.

If it goes to 150 degrees and you flip it over it would become a drop stem - wouldn’t it? I have a Ritchey adjustable and its very nice - it certainly can approximate a 73 (17 less than 90) stem or lower. David K
