Just like the title says, what are the most aero shoes out there at the moment(wide version as a bonus). I love my Lakes for my flat, wide monkey feet, but have to think there are better options than the huge trip surface of those velcro straps (the rear one I cover with soccer cleat covers). Just wondering what’s the latest? Doesn’t look like the VeloVetta ones are going to be wide and the Shimano’s were too narrow for me as well.
I should mention my question is primarily aimed at IM and HIM. I definitely appreciate that this post may be spot on as well.
Well the original Bont Crono was purportedly the fastest, but also $500+ and hard to find now. The Bont Zero has a good track record, still expensive. Interesting that Bont has so many aero-designed shoes compared to others.
My opinion tho, the shoes are a small piece of the drag equation and a huge piece of the biomechanics equation. Shoe selection should be based on fit and output efficiency. A low drag pair of shoes that fit sloppily will be worse than a boxy pair that fit perfectly.
I have Giro Empire as my race day shoe with elastic laces. I recently picked up a pair of DHB shoes from Wiggle to use as road shoes - they seem pretty similar to the Empire, but for a lot less money. Worth a look: https://www.wiggle.com/dhb-dorica-carbon-road-shoe
