What is the best aero road helmet? Specialized?
Sounds like you’re asking about non-TT helmets. The consensus around here is that the Specialized Evade tests very well on most riders. They’ve recently announced an Evade Tri, with the only difference being a magnetic buckle.

The Evade Tri is already out. I have it, and the buckle is neat.
The Giro Synthe looks to be faster than the Air Attack.
Don’t understand the point of these myself as I always wear a proper TT lid.
What does best mean to you? Most aero, lightest, breathable, comfortable?

Agreed, I live in Texas and have never been too hot in a true TT helmet. No problem at IMTX in a black one though black is the fastest.
I’ve been racing (road and cyclocross) in a LG Course all year, often in very hot weather. Tests nearly as fast as the Evade, better than the Air Attack, and doesn’t look stupid (in my judgment). It’s a well made helmet too, compared with the Kasks, Specializeds and Giros I’ve ridden in recent years.
I think the Evade looks the coolest. That’s a solid determiner when buying helmets
I’ve enjoyed my POC Octal Aero. It serves double duty for tri and road racing.
I use the regular Octal when aero is not so important.
It’s not so much the heat but I don’t like to have my ears covered and I turn my head alot.
I had the good fortune to test my Specialized Evade in a wind tunnel this past spring and ON ME, it tested really well. It is not as good as a dedicated aero helmet but that is not what it is trying to be. For an aero road helmet the Evade is comfortable, cool, performs well and looks pretty nice.
More recently, I had the misfortune to test the Evade in the way that actually really matters. I wrecked at high speed fracturing my scapula and striking my head against the pavement very hard. I am happy to report that the Evade performed remarkably as a safety device. I had a headache but not so much as a concussion in the crash. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Specialized’s R&D guys and gals and would recommend the Evade without hesitation to anyone.
I already replaced mine with another Specialized product for my return to road riding. (no, I am not paid nor sponsored by them, just thankful and now very loyal!)
Cheers
I tried a few on my noggin (comfort) plus ventilation and aesthetic factors and the LG Course was my fave. I was looking for a road lid with aero benefits, not a true TT lid. Easy lid to live with, works as intended.

You know looking around makes you slower right? You never realize how much it effects you until you have a TT lid on and turn your head.
There are a lot of aero road helmets popping up, Evade seems to be the king right now but some of the new ones may test faster. If you only want one helmet for training, TT, and road biking I would go with the TT or one of the new helmets such as the Scott right now.

I try not to but the bigger races it’s unavoidable.
I did Augusta last weekend and they put my wave at the very end, so there was alot of passing to do…then they all passed me on the run.

+1 - will be wearing it next week at Kona. I’ve done a few hot rides and it works well for ventilation and is suppose to be somewhat aero. good enough for this guy.
I’ve had both the Course and Evade since their respective introductions and can’t for the life of me tell a difference between their cooling capabilities - both work well for me. For my head shape, the Evade fits better so it is my “default” helmet. But I keep the Course because I feel a little funny doing things like cyclocross in it.
For me, the biggest disadvantage of the Evade is that I can’t stick my sunglass arms in the vents to hold them in the helmet like I can with the Course. A minor inconvenience, especially as the days shorten and my morning rides begin in pitch darkness. But an inconvenience nonetheless.
