Besides TRI's: What else do you race?

I mainly race triathlons and my training is probably 90% tri based, but on occasion I compete in: motocross, mtb racing, 1-2 road bike races a year, and about 2-3 Spartan races a year. Was just curious what other sports other forum members compete in. Please share.

I’ll pick up a 20k or half marathon when the opportunity comes around. I hate to admit this, but I’ll just use them as a long slow distance training run.

I do duathlons, adventure races, 5k, 10k and half marathons as the mood takes me. Might do a marathon one of these days.
I also do sportives but they’re not races.

i stared in on tri when i was 15 and i’d call it my ‘main’ sport, but honestly i think i’ve never met starting line i didn’t like. the main problem for me is usually my travel/lifestyle arrangements, which often have me in faraway places. so i have to be opportunistic.

-i raced varsity MTB semi-competitively at university for a few years.
-1 xc ski race, the canadian birkebeiner
-1 cyclocross race
-1 road bike race (a century, in namibia)
-1 25-k ‘mountain running/sky running’ race (switzerland), and the mount everest marathon (nepal). both weren’t exactly ‘adventure races’ but were kind of off-road and self-supported.
-plenty of road running. did my first 10k at age 11, and have been at it since. road miles up to marathon.
-some cross-country (run) racing
-duathlon, triathlon, indoor tri, winter tri, aquathlon, etc. draft-legal and non, from sprint up to half-ironman. all in probably a hundred+, in my life.
-a few lifeguarding competitions, a long time ago.

i’m sure i’m forgetting some. . . and i’ll jump into more when i can.

i’m pretty new to racing, but i’ve done a bunch of open water swim race, and Spartans and Tough Mudders (three away from my 10+ headband), and a bunch of regular running races, nothing longer than a half marathon… yet.

I’d love to do a cyclocross race and an xterra eventually, but i just don’t have the funds for more bikes at the moment.

Outside of triathlon I mostly road race, 13.1, 10-miler, 10K, and 5-milers. And I occasionally race duathlon. Lately I’ve been running more in the mountains and have thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact I’m racing up Mt. Evans this weekend, highest road race in North America, should be a killer.

I do at least as many trail races as tris. I typically do a gran fondo once a year (OK, not really a race). I did an adventure triathlon last year which just meant kayak instead of swim and the bike was on gravel roads. That was a lot of fun. Also, if I weren’t such a craptastic mountain biker, I would love to do an Xterra or similar race.

I run a lot, 5k’s thru 50k’s, and have done a couple swim only races and tough mudders. I plan on adding a few mt bike races next season.

When I was racing triathlons seriously, I was also, regularly entering in running races (5K - 1/2 Marathon), that fit well with my training schedule, and that would give me a good bench-marking of fitness. Ditto for a weekly local cycling club 10 mile ITT I would do in season - again, an outstanding workout and bench-marking session.

In the off season I would enter in and do 3 - 4 nordic ski races and loppets.

In short I would be doing some form of race, at least 2 - 3 times every month of the year!

Once it snows I tend to blow of my tri training which is probably why I never will be any good. I get into backcountry skiing and try to go to the ski-mo races they have here every week. Being on a splitboard it’s always fun beating those pesky skiers.

Along with triathlons, I do duathlons, 5ks, 10ks, several half marathons, and usually one marathon a year. I also have started doing trail runs and obstacle course racing. I would like to try a bike race this year.

That’s a pretty good blend of things! I have no experience with motocross, but do a bit of that other stuff too. Do you tend to prefer shorter or longer events?

My give-a-darn for triathlon really disappeared too. Maybe a year off will re-ignite the fire. I got pretty starry-eyed over cyclocross last year. Living an hour from both Chicago and Madison means there are quality CX races every weekend from Labor Day to early December. There’s something so backwards about racing 30-60 minutes twice a day, two days in a row compared to training half a year for one event. There’s also some awesome unpaved bike routes to the West of us in the Driftless Region. I usually sign up for early season running races too to motivate myself into training.

Cycling RR and TTs, every weekend March—>May, then sporadically for the rest of the season.
One open half marathon per year.
An occasional/accidental 5k or 10k running race.
A few rowing races, across a variety of boat classes, a few times per summer and fall.

I race road and xterra triathlons, duathlons, aquathlons, MTB races and lots of running races - mostly 5K and 10K. I try to do some running races during business trips. Hope to do one in Germany in June.

In the past I have done running races on the track, windsurfing racing, bike racing. I once did a swim, run, windsurf tri.

How did you get started with rowing??

I was as freshman in HS (my HS has a team), and thought it looked really cool—and good for college admissions.

mud and road runs 3 to 13.1 miles

By default as I have aged, my 20K to half marathons have become long slow training runs. I still do the Krispy Kreme Challenge. May not run as fast but age has not slow my ability to eat fast.

Sailboats. Every Monday night.
