Bent over in shower.........lower back pain

Three weeks ago did a sprint race that had some tough hills on the bike. Put out high watts often in a deep aero postion.

The next day, my lower back was very sore. In fact, bad enough that I could not bend over. Did just recovery training for a week. Gradually got better to the point were it seemed back to normal.

Well, about a week ago, was taking a shower and bent over to get some soap. Experienced a sharp pain in the lumbar region of the spine. Like an ice pick. Instantly could barely bend over. It has gotten better but it is still a “lower back pain.”

Am training but with not any great intensity. Taking asperin and have started laying on an ice bag. Also lots of stretching.

From what I have read, it could be a herniated disc. Has anyone had anything similar. The literature that I have read does say to stay active. That is good since I like to train. Am planning on doing the Utah Summer Games Olympic triathlon this upcoming Saturday. Will make an entry decision on Wednesday

thanks,

Conrad

Was anyone standing behind you? (Sorry, couldn’t resist).

Seriously, sorry to hear about your injury. I’m far from an expert, but sounds like it could just be you pulled something. I would take it easy on the training - particularly anything that puts a lot of strain on your back (like long training rides with aero bars).

Should probably have your doctor take a look. Also, if you have a local chiropracter, WHO YOU TRUST, might have him take a look at it. I have a guy who’s performed miracles on a troublesome neck/shoulder problem I’ve had for years.

At any rate, good luck.

I would never bend over in the shower to get the soap in Vegas.

It’s obvious…Jake can’t quit you
.

You mean Superman dosen’t get in the shower with Lois Lane? or does the soap wash off the krytonite?

I had something similar from the sounds of your post. Now the disclaimer: the back is a funny thing and not every injury is the same no matter how similar it is.

My doc thought I may have had a slipped disk but further and further exams and then finally going to a sports specialist I was diagnosed with a sacroliliac joint dysfunction (si joint). This apparently feels like a slip but for me it radiated when sitting and standing was no picnic either. Bending over was near impossible and I had to shuffle when I walked (after I tried to work through it).

My advice is to see a sports specialist in physio, chiro or a sports injury doctor and hope someone diagnoses you properly before you do more damage.

hope you get better and don’t bend in LV showers, it’s just not healthy.

Never I mean never bend over in the shower.

Boy, did I set myself up or what? Sometimes being too honest is not the right move.

Anyways, the point of it all was that it went out with no load on it. I must have been lazy and had a curved back rather than always keeping it straight. It is definitely in one of the lower lumbar discs. I hurt the same area about 15 years ago but that was while lifting a 94 lb. bag of cement mix with the wrong technique.

Will keep treating it with stretching and ice and heat and NSAIDs.

If there is no improvement in another week or so, will seek out a chiro or sports doc.

thanks for the info,

Conrad

Lois Lane just delivered Lois Jr. 2 weeks ago. Needless to say, S-man bathes solo.
