Benefits of riding fixed gear track bike?

Did a search and didnt find much. Outside of helping with some smoothness, are there any big benefits?

I think that their are many benefits, but they are subtle. You learn to ride at different cadences, both fast and slow. You seem to get in a good workout in less time. Also I think it makes you a better bike handler (you need to look further ahead and anticipate more).

I live in a very hilly area and riding a fixie has improved my fitness considerably, especially on hills. You don’t realize how much you use gears as a crutch to cover up weakness until you have no gears to use. Oh yeah, and a 90 minute ride over hilly terrain is about my max. The uphills are actually easier than the downhills when you’re tired.

The benefit is that IT’S AWESOME!!! Seriously dude, there are a lot of little things that it can help you with such as pedal smoothness, cadence, force application, road awareness and handling (you gotta pedal through corners, and no standing over bumps), etc - but the main reason I ride fixed is because it’s a blast.

Check out Gordo Byrn’s forum at gordoworld.com. Do a search for fixed gear. There was a thread a while back on the benifits. I built up a fixie last year and love it. Helps with my cadence and smoothness. Besides it makes you feel like a true biker.

where is the PROOF of these alleged benefits !! peer controlled reviewed and published studies - let’s see the design parameters of the research - we need power platforms and cohorts and controls and godknowswhatall, i say !!! you honestly going to come on here with nothing but experience and expect anybody to take you seriously !!! ???

I’m not smart enough to know about studies scientists perform in duck blinds… I just ride me bike.
