I recently posted here for help finding a rear derailluer hanger that had broken during an accident 5 days before an important race.
Up until I posted my question here, I had been working for 3 straight days with bike shops, tri shops and internet companies to locate the seemingly rare part. I took digital photos, placed countless long-distance phone calls to bike manufacturers, and the original online company whole sold the bike to me. I spent more than my fair share of work time frantically searching for a part that would save my race season.
Slowtwitchers Munckee, Cslone, Speedy and a few others came through with suggestions and help that today made the difference in me racing on Saturday. Thank you so much. I owe you all a round of cold ones at the first race we share together.
I also want to thank Don and Brad at Austin Tri-cylist who picked up the challenge, found a compatible hanger (note: they’re are thousands of different hangers out there, not much of this stuff is standardized) and got me going!
If you live in Austin, you are truly blessed to have these guys in your corner. After this experience, I am even talking to them about purchasing a frameset to upgrade my current machine. No, they’re not in my back yard but in my opinion you can’t beat finding and keeping a business relationship that works as hard as you do to keep your sport dreams alive.
I’m doing the Black Diamond HIM actually. I’m always open to jumping into a new race though. Send us a race report when you’re done and share the scoop.
Munckee, believe me dude, your help meant so much to me. I was looking at riding my mountain bike if I couldn’t fix the TT machine. You ever race in the Northwest and we get a chance to meet, the first round is on me!
It’s called the Longhorn Triathlon Festival. It will be the weekend of Sept 28th in Austin. Keith has family out there and is actually out there right now working on stuff.
Oh, I’m happy to chime in and tell everyone all about it…Everyone in New England is wicked cool, but the accents have to go:)
Longhorn is gonna RAWK…2 days of meetings the past two days…lining up some great stuff.
Austin is a FANTASTIC place. The race is going to be true Austin…Austin businesses, Austin musicians, Austin food, etc…Maybe even an appearance by Bevo, if we’re lucky, although that may dissuade Aggies from attending…
Website is in the works right now…Think Rock N’ Run, think Beer, think live music…of course, there will be some racin’ going on too:)
Don at Austin Tri-cylist set me up with a new P3C this past spring, they are a great shop. I will plan buying my next road bike from them which looks like it will be a Cervelo R3. Austin Tri-cylist is the first shop on my list.
