urgh. presumably there will be more of these stories, am it ain’t a good look for the games.

on the other hand, is it necessary to withdraw the team yet? do we know for sure that relay hasn’t been postponed?

That’s awful + no alternate because they only qualified 2 women.

Another part of the qualification farce having to have mixed team athletes in the individual.

Actually don’t they have alternates for this?
Pretty sure they do

They don’t know that it’s from the river.

no, of course not - neither does switzerland with briffod. just as an optics thing, it ain’t great. i feel like i’ve seen a dozen news stories that boil down to “swimming in the seine is gross!”

If the river flowed with Sparklettes water there would still be folks getting sick after their big events, just the law of averages. Now if 6 or more all come down with the same sort of thing, then you all can start crowing about the water quality…My guess is several athletes went into their race a bit sick, another average of big numbers. Who is going to pull out of the olympics with the sniffles or sore throat the day before???

Michel underperformed (#38) in the individual so quite possible she was already ‘a bit sick’: it’d be amazing if there weren’t a few sickish both before and after.
Think an athlete who the medics agree is sick can be replaced by a reserve the nation has brought (iaw protocols).

Belgium could have had an alternate, but they chose not to bring one and cut the funding of their alternate.
(Who finished 10th at the last Olympics, and just won a Challenge Race two weeks ago)

11/10 dumbass move by Belgium.
They had a way out of this situation, and they chose to be assholes and shoot themselves in the foot.

Belgium isn’t that far from France! Why is it too late?

International triathlon. No one lives in the country they race for.

Because the country gave that athlete the middle finger, and she is now giving it back perhaps??

Can’t they ask Remco? /pink

Michel actually didn’t underperform if you consider her swim is always her weaker leg and the weaker swimmers were a long way back out of the water and never caught the front pack but bled time.

Could also be that if Michele has tested positive for water borne illness and is very unwell the federation can’t run the risk of knowingly putting the athletes back in the water. Other Fed’s will be trying not to hear the details, can’t be held accountable if you don’t know.

Only the IOC and the country of France are to blame.

Maybe if they had a time machine and saw the future weeks ago when these decisions are being made… (-;

They made a choice to not have an alternate, think that is called putting ones eggs in one basket…

Brad Beer, physio on the ground in Paris, NZ Wilds physio, has commented on X

Plenty now sick -no one talking- all ‘tight lipped’ but ‘loose bottomed’.

Ah ha, so like Kona and heat, we now have a 4th event for this games, your ability to not swallow water and immune system!!! (-;
