Behind seat bottle cage options

Hey all,

Trying to find nicely looking behind seat bottle cage that will work for new Trek Speedconcept.
Trying to identify the one that Sam Long uses, any ideas?

Thanks!

Sam’s was free, just have to purchase this saddle: https://wovebike.com/v8saddle

You could also just use some zip ties to mount a cage under your saddle if you have enough room. As far as the bottle cage goes, I’d use an XLAB Gorilla XT. The new ones from TriRig look interesting as well.

Thank you! Wove saddle looks interesting, but the price ouch!

Maybe you know what’s Ben Kanute using too?

I don’t know about the mount but the cage in that photo is an X-Lab Gorilla or Gorilla XT.

Just as an FYI, no one ever takes my suggestion, but I have never lost a single bottle out of a Z-cage (mtb) on the back. It costs $20, it’s easy to find while riding and doesn’t lose a thing. I could put national secrets back there and ride care free.

I’ve just got the new Fizik cage for my Aeris saddle - and they have done a nice job on the looks and strength of it.

What doesn’t make sense to me (with these mounts, not just the Fizik) is the cage gets mounted upside down. This makes the bottle more likely to eject, and doesn’t place the bottle higher, so it’s more in the wind shadow of your ass?

This has created a market for “bottle retention loops” and similar. If the cage was mounted on the top, it would put the bottom of the bottle right up against your ass, but so what, you’re usually riding the nose -

Hi there, the canyon bracket puts the cage right side up and at an upward angle for security, but people still lose bottles just due to the forces at the rear end of the bike. Topeak had a cage designed to be mounted upside down, but they placed the split in the cage on the bottle making it open when bumps were hit (split to allow cage to easily be removed from tooling during production).

We’re releasing a BTS cage but will still recommend the retention loop for bottles 24oz and larger. Again, the issue is the whip like forces in that position on the bike. But we’ll take the possible aero advantage of a bottle mounted near-horizontally bts over the minor inconvenience of learning to reach back and unhook a retention loop that ensures bottles aren’t lost even over gravel washboard roads. our retention loop works with any cage on any saddle.

Last, you can mount a cage as you suggest to our V8. Here’s a photo from wovebike.com/instructions

Or use the Wolftooth BRad bracket to set the bottle a little further back so you can sit up.

Nice! Someday on this Forum we will easily be able to do this -

Zip ties and a gorilla cage have worked great for me. I found that using numerous small zip ties works better than bigger/thicker zip ties.

Does anyone know what rear cage Magnus uses here, as shown from Challenge Roth?

The actual cage looks like the shape of the XLAB Torpedo cage…
https://xlab-usa.com/torpedo-cage.html

Also looks like the bottle is not all the way in, maybe about to be ejected?

The attachment is built it in the saddle - he’ws riding the same saddle I am - Wove v8 Tri+TT saddle

https://wovebike.com/v8saddle

However the cage is not attached directly to the saddle, no clue what or who makes that contraption of a storage box (likely mostly providing an aero benefit more than ‘needed storage’) that the cage is attached to…

Some talk about that storage box here: https://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/?post=8151470#p8151470

Topeak has a “reverse” cage specifically to address this and stop launches. It’s not sexy ultralight carbon (actually kinda chunky), but it’s cheap and works really well. https://www.topeak.com/global/en/product/1005-TRI-CAGE

Edit: Looks like they have a 2nd gen version that is lighter/sleeker…and a carbon one.
