Beer Mile: The Film — The Story Behind the World’s Fastest Chuggers and Runners
"The Beer Mile started as an underground event but has transformed into a wildly-competitive, international phenomenon. How does Corey Bellemore run a sub-4 minute mile while chugging 4 beers? How will a tight-knit community, born out of making running a little more fun, receive Olympian Shelby Houlihan who is currently serving a suspension from track and field?
“Relationships will be tested as athletes from around the world strive to break records, make friends, and fight to be crowned Beer Mile world champions.”

This is fun.
Maybe a bit silly.
I do think that it contains a inspirational “spark” for something.
Personally…
I can’t drink. I don’t like puking. And I am not a talented miler.
I did think of creating a “weed wilderness ultra.”
But a lot of young people I know seem to be having trouble with weed related psychoses…
So, I think that might be a bit irresponsible.
(Although maybe it should be somebody’s job to encourage more adventurous, less pathological weed use).
Instead…
How about a competition that involves:
- Reciting transcendental poetry
- Doing vigorous S, B or R through iconic landscapes
- Capturing it on GoPro.

Absolutely
Does it have to?
Recently, I read a new biography of Edward Gorey, focusing on his theatrical works, most of which were executed for no reason other than: 1) for his own enjoyment, 2) to raise money for his community theater group, and 3) to give the troupe something to do, to practice their arts
I came upon a phrase that perfectly captured this raisin d’tere
Beer Mile falls into the “Etceterism” category, as it’s essentially pointless, serves no real purpose, but can be good for a laugh
I’m all for that
Keep in mind, I’m the knucklehead who devises “challenges” like “run a course of any distance you choose, but the course must include the name of a US President” for President’s Day or 3.14 Miles on Pi Day (I did NOT invent that one)
There is supposed some decent Strava art.
Occasionally, I channel my inner 3 year old and run genitalia shaped courses.
No-one seems to notice.

ICYMI: Women’s Beer Mile record holder, Shelby Houlihan (5:43.81), took silver in the 3000m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. @shelbo800 ran 8:38.26 just behind Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu who ran 8:37.21 for gold
Fifteen pubs over just two and a half miles, 7oz beer at each; that’s a shorter interval than a Beer Mile, but the “servings” are/were smaller, as well
