Been a while since the last surfing thread

I saw the title and thought “Ok, might as well start watching Winter Surf vids now”

(For those who aren’t aware of my quirks, I watch Winter Surf vids to motivate myself for the season when I go out to run in cold, rainy, grey, miserable weather with the thought that ‘these people are so badass in the water; I should aspire to be HALF as such, running around on land’)

Um, the ocean temp at Manhattan Beach is 67* today, probably about the same when this was shot

That’s not “Winter”

“Winter” here means the ocean is in the 40s

These guys are weak LOL

#HTFU

There has been pretty drastic temp fluctuations due to upwelling from wind, that particular weekend temps dropped to 62ish.

It was cold and the first non spring suit day since last spring.

As you probably know, we don’t get temps in the 40’s, anything less than 57 in so cal is considered COLD and not that common.

This is a good one in that vein..

“Director: Keith Malloy” I’m sold, thank you!!!

I read a book last year titled The Whalebone Theatre which took place (off and on) in Cornwall; it looks as bleak as described

I hadn’t even noticed he directed it! Fan of the Malloys’ films going back to the early Moonshine Conspiracy days.

The Cornish and Welsh coastal areas are very similar - definitely bleak in the winter months.

Oh, THIS oughtta be good!!!

Saw this earlier, figured you’d enjoy (especially the music)

Oh, that’s sweet, thanks!!!

At the David Byrne show at The Met on Friday, they were in a forest, and you could see the fog rising and falling, as the sun came through the trees

D’Wife kept asking me “do I know this song?” Um, how does one answer that? ‘If you knew it, you wouldn’t be asking me’ But DB often rearranges things, so they don’t sound the same as you’re used to, so the question IS legit

ETA: there’s an N-Men doc on TUBI, if you have access

I do have Tubi, but it’s on YouTube too so I can watch while I work

Waiting, and paddling.

@sphere 's Pearl Jam dump reminded me of this; it’s a crappy VHS-copy upload, but the story is still there - however you feel about the two of them, individually or together

The Eddie opening ceremony is this Friday, waiting period runs through March.

The NS has been getting some decent swell for the past week or so, I’ve seen a couple clips of tourists getting into trouble at Shark’s Cove, and it seems like the locals are already getting frustrated with the whole scene this year..

Got this today, you might appreciate.

Saw it at a local store on Thanksgiving weekend, I’d seen it online before, got it from Biblio for less than half of what the store was asking (I don’t mind supporting local, but within reason).

Only taken a quick browse through so far, some cool old pics of the NJ surfing scene over the years.

The “remainder mark” they mention was on the cellophane wrapper, not on the edge of the pages themselves.

Sooooo. My new house is right on the water. There is a small boat ramp to get in the water on a footpath just behind the house. Waves aren’t great here in the protected waters of the gulf, but I wanna be able to get on the board straight from my front door and paddle out when I feel like it.

I started in 1978, so I might be in the back pages

Just in time for Xmas

And, so you know, they’re HERE

They say the ocean temp is 40 degrees, which is about what it is in Jersey right now … AND in Alaska!!!
