I live up in the North Bay (Sonoma County) and heard about a terrible accident on Easter morning involving a cyclist. In our local paper today (http://www.pressdemocrat.com/local/news/13crashfolo_b1.html, I read a story about this tragedy. A 31 year old triathlete from Mountain View was run over by a drunk driver. The driver was a practicing attorney and this occurred in the morning hours. This occurred on a major thoroughfare that is straight and flat. After the drunk driver killed the guy, he kept going and hit his girlfriend who was riding just ahead. He finally stopped farther down the road claiming to not have know he just hit two cyclists. The 26 year old is seriously injured and in intensive care.
The victim (an MIT grad engineer) was visiting his mother for Easter and just was trying to get in some training miles with his girlfriend. What a terrible story. If any of you South Bay triathletes know Alan or Jill, please offer them my sincere condolences. The SoCal cycling community is pretty tight up here and this is a loss for all of us even if we didn’t know Alan or Jill. Our hearts go out to their family and friends.
