This audiobook popped up on my Spotify feed on Friday; what does Spotify know that we don’t?
Truth be told, although, it’s labeled “audiobook” it plays more like a scripted podcast; the narrator does a hilarious mimic of Laz’s voice!!!
A couple other questions (besides ‘when?’)
Do DOGEs attacks on the National Parks and their employees, rangers and o the support personnel, trickle down to State Parks? While the state of Tennessee follow suit, echoing everything "we’ll send it back to the states? "Is Frozen Head State Park open? Can Laz get his required permits?
With the unprecedented number of finishers over the past two years (3 & 5, plus the first woman), what sort of “hijinks” might Laz have up his red-flannel sleeve?
Who might be coming back - for revenge, redo, or repeat?

Supposedly all the campsites are booked for March 15–20 and an international runner recently posted an IG story with bags packed, and ready to go.

All of the drive-in campsites are closed for this entire season; the park is doing a major renovation project. With that said I’m sure they’ll let laz use the area by the yellow gate as a start/finish for a few days. If the timing follows previous years the start will be sometime in the next 2 weeks; I’d guess the 19th or 20th…
I heard that got put off until June.
ETA directly from the state of Tennessee parts website:
All Big Cove and Flat Fork Campsites will be closed beginning June 1st, 2025 for a campground renovation. The renovation is expected to take approximately one year.
I stand corrected, my info was outdated. The park’s website does indeed have the Big Cove campsites booked thru Thursday so yeah, looks like a start by Tuesday morning.
I hoped I’d get some input from a TN resident - however far from the actual event site
Speaking of which, in site of everything else, it’s also haunted
I used to run past Eastern State Penitentiary - that fucking place is fucking creepy as fuck
Fun story: before it became a museum the Barkley Fall Classic had the runners go through the prison itself. One year they had to make their way into “the hole” and get their bib punched by a volunteer in one of the cells in the dark…. Creeeeepy

Y’know, if anyone was to consider replicating a “Barkley Marathon Experience,” New Jersey would be a perfect place to do it
We have thousands of square miles of unnavigable forest, abandoned prisons and mental hospitals within those woods + the JERSEY DEVIL!!!
Not so much on elevation, though
“think of Barkley, but flat … ish; like they say certain marathons are 'flat & fast” LOL; lying motherfuckers"

It’s about 2.5 hours away plus a time zone difference. My friend and I have talked about going there, but we never have gotten there. It’s in the middle of nowhere.
Refreshing #BM100 and @keithdunn on TwiXter

I ran a bit of the race with him during the first few miles. He even had the cigarette lit.

Bluesky is the place, huh?
John Kelly comes back for his eighth attempt, after eight finishers in past two years #coincidence

ETA: looks like I started the thread just in time

I wouldn’t take that article as gospel that Kelly is running. He might be running, but he also might just be there.

Google doc is posted - Kelly is on the sheet
Yeah, I saw that. He wasn’t on there when I posted 33 min ago. I trust that one more. I have several friends running and/or in camp there. Until I hear directly from them, I am always a little skeptical of what I read.
Serious fucking FOMO this year.
Someone posted this fairly reasonable assessment of the late start
“Latest start in #bm100 history (after 11:23 in 2015). In 3 late start years we’ve had 2 finishers; difficult but doable, but that’s Barkley in a nutshell. The late start has some unique challenges with it, including near total darkness for loop 2 and the critical loop 4, along with likely a couple of hours of darkness for would-be 5 loop finishers. Look for a brisk loop 1 (hopefully <8:30 to bank time with a mostly daylight loop) and then going from there.”

This goes out to all the strong women in Camp right now ( I’m sure there are one or two - or more), supporting the guys out in the woods
