Just curious how rough it is… I did a really rocky, aggressive 10k race last spring and it was brutal. It felt just as hard as a marathon. But, I’m told by an experienced ultra trail runner that Bandera is pretty fun and not as brutal as the last trail race I did (“The Loop” at Emma Long - Rogue Trail race).
Just saw this sister. Bander is BRUTAL I mean BRUTAL…it is by far the toughest ultra I have ever run. That is fairly limited to the ones here in Texas and I am sure that some of the mountain ones are as hard or harder.
That said it is one of the funnest races I have ever done. The course is nothing but up and down in steep with rocks and cactus. The area is beautiful and the RD’s are the best. Joe and Joyce put on a huge feed and the party goes all night. Well for those not running the 100k.
Mrs. ATX and I did the 50k a couple years ago (she did the 25k last year and I was still rehabbing from my knee surgery so I hung out and drank beer and volunteered) I swear I thought I was going to die. I truly loved it. I am sure we will be out there camping this year and will run the 25k at least.
Camping is the best option since the area is a bit remote. I have an extra tent if you need one. If your brother is healed up tell him to come along and bring a mtb since the are is full of trails to ride. But given your gnome size you could sleep in the Outback. bwhahaha
Awesome! I’d love to trip over cacti and rocks for 50k.
I’d love to do the 50k, but I’m sure even the 25k is next to impossible. I’ll talk to the powers-that-be and see if this fits into my schedule for January.
Is it correct that you get to drop off ‘special needs’ bags for the aid stations?
Powers that be? Coaches or Boss. I can take care of the boss part if needed.
You really won’t need a drop bag for the 25k but on the 50k or 100k it is a must. The logistics of ultra running is a thing of amazment. When I ran the 50k I had two drop bags on the course and one back at the startfinish since we passed through there once.
I’m pretty sure when Bandera comes around you’ll come up with some excuse not to do it again this year. Something like you pinky toe hurting or something weak like that. Hahahaha!!! I may tag along for this one. Depends on what the coach says and how it fits into IMAZ training.
I LOVE that race. And, yes, it is brutal. But, a total blast. Even better if you are part goat. I did the 25k a couple of years ago and it felt like a hard 20 mile run. But, I had so much fun. I’ve been wanting to do it again but it just hasn’t worked out. Maybe this year. If you have the chance to do it, you should!
I will be honest which is something I do rarely. You will be thrashed for a week or more. I was so wasted I couldn’t figure out how to quit so I just wandered off down the trail until I found the finish line.
the most fun i’ve ever had on a running race. hilly, hard, awesome. did the 25 k as a training run a couple of years ago. it was as hard if not harder than austin marathon which i was training for.
camp out, run, sit and drink beer and eat all the great food, watch/support the 100K runners. if you have a mountain bike - take it - trail everywhere out there. i hope to be out there this year, don’t live in tx anymore, but want to take extra time off over x-mas break to do the race.
Bandera … a group of my trail running friends is trying to talk me into running it. They’ve already booked a place called Diamond H Lodge. (Somewhere in ‘town’, I guess.) Not certain yet if I’m able to survive the ‘torture fest’ during the period (early-, mid-Jan) where the fitness is at its lowest level
