That must be hard - moving from a place that has a light winter to one that has a real winter( snow, cold weather . .)

The beauty of the tri - training routine, is that there is always something you can do - regardless of the weather. Like the other poster here, I am a huge fan of nordic skiing. So the end of the tri season or at least out door cycling was the beginning of xc- skiing.

I know that not everyone likes skiing, but winter can be a perfect time to really focus on the swim, or the run. Too many triathletes get caught up in keeping a balanced program going year round. Fact is, if you are only doing a sport 2 - 3 times a week, you are not doing it frequently enough or with enough volume to really jump it up to the next level. So take, 2 - 3 months and do a mini focus on one sport 4 - 6 days a week. Squeeze in a couple of work-outs a week in the other sports just to maintain. You will be shocked at A) the improvement in that one sport and B)how little you have lost in the other two.

Just an idea.

I get bummed out a bit and find it hard to just get out to swim. however I’ve found a marvelous solution to this and it is amber goggles. it makes the pool look like the sun is pouring in and makes the whole experience terrific. who doesn’t want to train in a sunlit pool?

although i told myself I was going to bear the cold on the bike this year so far I’ve not done it once. even spent the money on the clothes and bought my new bike thinking I would stay out. well, I’ve ridden my bike 3 times and haven’t been out in at least 4 weeks. I suck!

and, of course I just have to harp on, one post isn’t enough…

for running, generally if it’s not raining I’ll go out, but find the treadmill to be an easy retreat. put on some talking heads and it’s good to go…helps to have one in the basement.

now, the trainer is another animal. this thing sucks royally and I can’t make myself ride it alot. I don’t know how to overcome this one. (no tv allowed in basement by my husband’s gearhead rules) perhaps I’ll get some guts and bear the cold this weekend and just get out.

I’m off to shop. I need a new evening dress for my 30th birthday coming up! Red, something red and shiny. Yeah!
