I used to have terrible knee pain when I was a golfer, and found Kneesovertoesguy on youtube who teaches some unconventional but easy physical therapy exercises to strengthen and repair knees. I adopted 4 of his techniques and it cured my knees and I was able to golf as often as I wanted (until a tweaked back LoL) and I still do these exercises to stay bulletproof for triathlon training. One of my favorites is backwards walking, anytime I have knee pain, I get on the treadmill (turned off) and stand backwards leaning against the monitor and push the tread away for a few minutes a day. This really helps strengthen the front of the knee complex. Anyways, I just found this guy who has the WR for the backwards mile and he also suffered knee injuries and adopted the backwards walking/running to cure the issue and continue running. Amazing to see this blend of therapy/training! His WR is 5:54

I did, during my Ironman training days, and still do a 100m bw walk at the end of long runs as part of a cool down.
Don’t know if it ever really helped, but it never hurt.
