Play Tri Westminster screwed us. I called several weeks in advance to check on having our 3 mountain bikes shipped and they said no problem and it would be around $100 to ship the bikes back to San Diego. Several days prior I called the shop and they said they were ready and expecting our bikes. I called the day prior and the owner Mike told me it would be an additional $80-$120 per bike for packing. We were out of options at this point so I decided to go ahead with our initial plan. In the end it cost me $230/bike to have them shipped. Mike then told us they wouldn’t be packed and shipped for a week. Once again, we were out of options so I went along with it. Low and behold, I called them after a week and they said they had not been packed yet because the boxes were not big enough and it would probably be another week or so until they would get packed and shipped. Now we’re going to have to fly to Denver to get our bikes and ship them home via the airlines. What a nightmare. Stay away from Play tri Westminister and Bike Flights. Total bait and switch.
That would be an individual PlayTri location issue and something you should take up with them. Bike Flights on the other hand I’m trying to understand what they have done to contribute??? They are just the UPS go-between. I’ve used Bike Flights many times and never and issue.
Couple of things.
Playtri is a franchise, so you have a complaint with 1 store, which you should make clear in the title of your post.
Second when you asked them about shipping did they mention they’d pack them up at that time and it was $100 to pack & ship? (if that’s a freaking steal)
Maybe they thought you were packing them.
The shipping quotes sound somewhat in line with what I’ve paid to ship my bike case this season. Maybe a bit higher but then they will probably upcharge you on the shipping 5-10% so that sounds spot on. (I use shipbikes.com which uses Fedex and I’ve found them to nearly always be < $ than bikeflights).
The packing quotes sound a bit high as I think shops around here are charging ~ $75-95 to pack.
It’s stuff like this that makes me glad I handle all my own packing & shipping.

^this. Sounds like a case of “I just assumed that everything would be done for me and was included and now I’m pissed that I didn’t ask enough questions to make sure everyone is on the same page”.
And to the OP…I would highly suggest posting a follow that you changed the title of the thread of your original post to identify the location as well as your initial post for context as you came in here trying to take down PlayTri in general as well as Bike Flights. And just a suggestion moving forward, this isn’t the pace to take out your anger on what is clearly a story that has more to it that what you are saying. What was your goal? To smear as many businesses as possible? A simple phone call to the store to understand where the miscommunication was and then resolve it would have been the proper thing to do.
I find it so hard to believe that PlayTri quoted you $100 to pack AND ship a bike cross country. The shipping alone is probably $100 or more and the packing (materials and labor) is probably in the $75-100 range.
you have a lot going on in your post, hard to tell what is what. But I cannot see for the life of me where Bike Flights is in the wrong here, they are a 3rd party shipper to the franchise you have chosen. I have sent out about 70 bike boxes with them in the past year or so, and every single one got there on time or early, and they go FEDX. Not one single issue, and pretty reasonable price, usually under 90 bucks to most places…
