That is pretty fast for that twisty-hybrid-inlineskater infested loop. I did 7minute intervals out there once and only managed about 21-22mph. On one of the curves preceding the steep hill i almost lost it into the trees cause I wanted to see how fast i could take a turn in aero position.
Did you get to ride the south mopac loop that is right there? I know you are from out of town but the run-far thursday time trial occurs there.
RunFar TTs are nice, but I always feel a bit out of my league there only averaging 24-25mph. Maybe if I upgrade my 404/Renn to an 808/disk combo I would be able to keep up with the 28-30 mph crowd
Dude, stop rubbing it in. I just moved here and was sooo excited about doing that this tuesday, and at work in the morning Tuesday somehow I pinched a nerve in my neck/shoulder area and was completely crippled.
today was the first day I could get on a bike since, and I wasn’t able to look behind myself, it still hurts!!
I have no idea if that is a reasonable goal, so I’ll just have to do it anyway.

Definitely should do the RunFar TT when you get a chance. That’s a really fun course. Usually about 100 people show up and you just go when you want between 6pm and 7pm. For whatever reason it is a really fast course, despite being rolling and an out and back. It is a great distance to really learn to push hard. Sort of a real life version of ~20 minute interval. Do it twice and you get your 2x20. We live close by so we ride that loop at least once a week.

Fast course? I find that it’s 3-4mph slower than a comparable flat course for me. But then again, at 225 lbs I lose a bit more than most people on the hills.
Still, it’s a very fun course. I highly recommend it. Best of all, it’s only $5 for a near race-like atmosphere.

Jack, Jack, Jack… I’m talking about the SoMopac TT loop. The Veloway, honestly, if for little kids and grandmothers, and people out for some “exercise”, not for racing.
I’ve ridden the Veloway maybe 4 times in the last 3 years, mostly to help my wife practice cornering for crits, and twice with my mom. Really not a place to be hammering the TT bike. That’s what SoMopac is for.
Alright Jack I went 17:33 last time - 27.4 MPH. Next time I will do the Veloway first then the TT.
See you saturday - “A” pack or die.

Okay, you made me. 16:17 (2 weeks ago) - 29.5 MPH*.
They call it an 8 mile loop, but everyone I know shows it as 8.1 miles, which makes my average 29.9 MPH - 5 seconds away from the magic number (to me anyway).
FWIW my wife has the women’s course record on SoMopac, so if there is an Austin “SoMopac” Challenge, then I think we are in pretty good shape… Seriously, if we are going talk about going fast on TT bikes SoMopac makes a lot more sense than the Veloway. The Veloway is like taking a dragster to Road America.
I KNOW what you are talking about. Obviously the two locations are adjacent, and I live right next to both of them.
I do the TT loop, ALL the time
=)
in fact I timed myself on my road bike last week and I’m thinking 27mph is a looong shot.
25mph is more realistic…sigh…
and the veloway is a fine place to hammer on the TT bike, I can stay in the aerobars through the whole thing. Why can’t you? =)

how many miles do I need to bike per day? how much life ending pain do I need to go through?
=)
