Australia’s Craig Mottram has won bronze in the 5,000m at the world athletics championships to become the first man in 18 years to breach the African stronghold on the event.
Mottram flew home to finish third in 15 minutes 32.96seconds, behind Kenyan Benjamin Limo who won in 13:32.55.
Ethiopia’s Sileshi Sihine was second in 13:22.81.
Mottram is the first white man to win a medal in the 5,000m at the world championships since Portugal’s Domingos Castro won silver and Britain’s Jack Buckner the bronze in 1987.
