Aurora High Cliffs (Wisconsin) lodging suggestions

I’m signed up for the Aurora High Cliffs 1/2 IM on June 27th. It is near Appleton, Wisconsin. I was wondering if anybody had suggestions for a decent motel in the area. Clean and quiet are my main criteria.

Thanks!

I used to live up in that part of the country. If the race actually leaves from High Cliff State Park it will be difficult to find a hotel close to the start. There are a couple of decent hotels in both Appleton and Neenah. If I were to stay in Appleton I would recommend something closer to downtown rather than out by 41. I haven’t been up there for years but the “Paper Valley Hotel” used to be pretty nice. That would help reduce the travel time by 15-20 mins. Best of luck.

You should go to TinMan in Baraboo in June too…fun race…but the other post was right, nothing to close to the start.

Staying in downtown Appleton will give you more options. I stayed at one of the bigger hotels last year - Radisson, I believe - and the drive out to the race site was no problem - actually gives you some time to wake up and get your game face on. Besides, staying downtown gives you more options for dinner within walking distance - there’s a decent Italian place on the main drag.

The Wisconsin Dells Tinman isn’t being held this year. I don’t remember where I saw that - maybe Silent Sports?

yeah. appleton rules! i grew up there.

i’m jealous.

stay in downtown appleton. my first job was busing tables at the paper valley hotel. it was bought out in 1998 and then was sold again to radisson. www.radisson.com/appletonwi

it’s the nicest in the area. great steakhouse - vince lombardi. also great bar - for post race.

all visiting teams playing the green bay packers stay there even though it’s a 30 minute drive to g.b. because it’s the nicest place in the area.

Downtown Appleton should have many options…or you can go to Oshkosh, which has numerous lodging options to cater to the annual air show as welll…Fondulac to the south also has options, both are a relatively short drive from Appleton/High Cliff…Ripon is not too far either…lots of options for you…just search a little…

Or you could get a little farther away like Green Lake…nicee resort lake, 5th largest in WI, deepest inland lake in WI…maybe 45 minute drive to Appleton…I have an affinity for Green Lake…note my handle…

Green Lake also has a nice sprint/close to Oly Distance race in early August sponsored by Ripon Hospital…very relaxed, race day sign up…great point to point course…open country roads…etc…

Enjoy…

Thanks for the info - I will get my reservations made today!

I really like that general area of Wisconsin a lot. My husband and I always spend a week after tax season in Elkhart Lake - of course my bike goes with and while he sleeps in, I go chasing up and down the hills. So nice to ride on good roads with hardly any traffic.

Last year we made a second trip in June so I could do the Elkhart Lake Triathlon. I had a blast! I will be back up there again this June to see if I can improve my time (especially my run!).

cool, we are thinking of moving back to the midwest (chicago area). i’m going to try to get up to high cliff s.p. for the race.

wisconsin = best state in the nation.

good luck!
