Attachment to old water bottles

I know it is really dumb but I feel like I cannot be the only guy out there that feel this way about old water bottles. I have a water bottle that I got the first year I started doing triathlons 5 years ago when I use to be back in college. Needless to say it is really beaten up, leaks a little when I drink from it and has a smell of many many hours at work that after trying to clean it with soap, bleach, dishwasher, water bottle scrub thing. My boyfriend has been telling me to just through it put since I have many other ones that work just fine and don’t smell. The thing is that I have not been able to throw it out. Do anyone else feel the same way? What is your story?

I understand- I have a closet full of old water bottles, many from the early 90’s- most of the writing has faded off. I think of them as event souvenirs, I would no more throw one out than I would throw out an old race t-shirt

The older, smaller Elite bottles were my favorites but, when production ceased and those in the pantry developed gashes so severe that fluids would gush out, I had to submit them to recycle. I still miss those bottles and the stylish cages, too. Sniff.

Water bottles are my souvenirs. I buy them at bike shops on annual bike tours to remind me of where I have been. I also keep one from each race. Yes, there is a story for every bottle.

I have a box of bottles from the 80s! yes, they are all special :-)!

My 2 favourite bottles are from 2003, they are clear so I can see how full they are and they never leak. Partly for sentimental value as I got them in Kona, but they are also the best bottles I have ever used.

I always make sure where I can that I keep a water bottle from all the races I do especially if they are branded for the specific race. If I’m going into a race and know I will need to start with a bottle which I will throw away I buy a cheap one especially for that purpose so I don’t need to ditch any of my “collection”…sad I know. A tip for giving them a really good clean is to soak them in baby sterilizing fluid then give them a good rinse to get rid of the funny taste and they are as good as new at least bacteria wise.

Didn’t throw them out but about 5 yrs ago I gave about 90 never worn race T-shirts to Good Will Industries. Keep expecting to see a homeless person in one of these but no luck yet:)

I did save about 12 of my fav race T-shirts and also have about 6 old water bottles.
