Attaching gels to basic race belt

Any ideas out there on how to attach gels to a basic (i.e. no elasticized loops) race number belt?

Thx,

electrical tape
.

I just stick them in the leg of my shorts. I can hold 4 of them fairly easily on the run.

Hammer gel flask (or any other manufacturer I guess). Stick it in the elastic band at the top of my shorts or the belt if it’s tight enough. Works great, always have plenty, no worries about trash.

For the price (or a stocking stuffer), get a belt with gel loops.

x2. I run in trishorts almost exclusively because a) it prevents thigh chaffing, and b) I can stick all sorts of stuff in them (keys, money, gels, etc).

I’ve used rubber bands before. Takes a little bit of time and patience getting them on with the gels, but it works fine.

i have heard of people using safety pins through the tear-off tab to attach to a race belt, though never tried it myself. seems like they’d bounce around quite a bit, but might be worth a try…

cheers!

Just use rubber bands. Wind each one around the belt, pop the gel in so the long axis of the packet is parallel to the belt. Or, if you want, I’m sure Nathan or Ultimate or someone else can sell you a fancier model for $$$$.

I have used safety pins with success. I have not been able to line the pin up in a way that opens the gel when I rip it off, so I still have to rip it open. to I like the rubber band with the gel parallel to the belt though - sounds like less bounce(not that you notice the bounce too much after a mile), and sounds easy to deal with

I never go to a race without duct tape.

Why not just buy one of these for $10

Thanks for the input everyone. I will test run the elastics and electrical tape, however this close to race day it may be safer to just get the fuel belt.

Much appreciated.

r

2x gel flask much easier and as stated no trash to deal with
Some people have trouble getting the last gel out of the flask
so spray the inside the nite before and let it drain put gle in in am
For carrying usually the jersey will have a pocket and you can buy
belts with flask holders. If you have ever worked a race you would not
take the trash out on the course

My fuel belt has a slim pocket that I can cram three gels into, just don’t open it all the way or they fly out.

Rocket Science Sports makes an awesome race belt, it has elastic holders built in to hold gels.

Big safety pins. Pin them through the top part and this way you don’t have to worry about what to do with the little piece torn off.

How many are we talking here? Have you tried holding them in your hand(s)?

I use athletic tape, wrap it around the pull tab with the gel parallel to the belt, and so that the gel is attached by the pull tab. Then I take another piece of tape, and tape the bottom of the gel to the belt so that it doesnt flap around. It works great for me and you can use it on the free racebelts you get. Ill try to attach a picture.
