Atlanta athletes: blatant ad and looking for a Sunday ride

Hi,

I’m in Atlanta this weekend to visit family. My schedule:
Saturday: Four Keys of Ironman Execution, 3-5pm at Manuel’s Tavern. The talk will benefit the Georgia Chain Gang, a 4-person RAAM team raising money for TNT. Attendees will be asked to make a charitable contribution and in return will receive a free copy of our Four Keys DVD. Visit the link above for details and to RSVP via Facebook. Who knows, I may even buy a round of beers :-)Sunday: I’ve rented a bike from Atlanta Cycling in Vinings. I’m looking for a very fast paced ride, either with a large or small group. Pedaling 8-12p would be ideal. Any help? Roadie rides I can birddog? Anyone want to show me around? I lived in Atlanta '86-95 but cycling wasn’t on my radar. While I’d like to ride in the mountains (did much motorcycling up there) I don’t want to burn daylight driving up and back. Maybe some other time. Thanks in advance,

Hello Rich,

This is the one you want. http://gtcbike.org/ go to the website and look at the calendar. On Sundays the Dans Macabre Ride will be posted. Its not up yet but will be. I’m not sure of the time I’ll either be 9:00 - 12:00 or 10:00 - 1:00 warm up before and cool down after and You’ll hasve your 4 hours. Its not a big group but pretty hilly. Don’t let the 18 mph average fool you. Its usually much faster. I rode 5:00 flat in my last (very flat) IM race (B2B) and I’m just hanging on and more often than not get dropped.

My cell is 248 890 0384 if you want more info.

Perfect.

Is there someone I should ask for, name I should drop, secret handshake, etc? Thanks!

I may be there, but show up and ride. Tell them Shawn sent you but its open to anyone. Most dont get there to right at the time. Maps are on the website, I’d print one off. Typically there is a pee break and a water stop, and some places where it will regroup. The general rule is if you get dropped and people can look back and you are hammering they will wait. If you are sitting up and looking like you’re done they go on. Dan (tall 55ish year old) is the unoffiical ride leader. Don’t let the 55 fool you he contends at Nationals and has won a USA jersey).

Shawn, thanks for the tip. I’ll likely be there unless something comes up.
