Athletes Foot

I have converted over to the sockless world of cycling and after a few
rides I have my first ever bout with Athlete’s foot. It started between
my toes, but the other night the side of my foot starting to itch and I
had a small blister in that area too. Not sure what this all is, but it
must be related to going sockless. I got some Lamasil AT and have been
applying that, and I got some foot powder to sprinkle on my feet next
time. Is this common and what else can I do to prevent this?

I used to get it when I ran alot…and when I cycled alot, I started wearing flipflops and all other manner of shoes that would keep my feet aired out and dry, Havent had any problems for a long time now.

What’s up with all the late night foot questions?

Anyway - most topical OTC creams, etc. work just fine for simple interdigital or plantar tinea pedis. A good antifungal powder in your cycling shoes and/or running shoes if you are prone (i.e. tolnaftate or Zeasorb, etc.) and you will be fine. Rarely, this becomes pretty nasty (I could show you some pretty nasty photos) and oral therapy is needed

After the last photo you posted I’m a bit scared.

On topic - I have phases where I get bad “attacks” do you reccomend putting powder in before every use? Every use during an “attack” or just say once a week?

For most triathletes, in/out of water, 2 year old cycling shoes, barefoot sprints running, etc. (basically the worst possible combo of things for athlete’s feet) I recommend some antifungal powder in the shoes about once per week. I like Zeasorb. Everyday is fine, but the sockliner starts to get a little funky with all that powder not completely absorbing. Pretty cheap insurance, really. We did the same thing in the Army/Infantry as well.

Awesome, thanks all.

Did you talk to my wife or something about my shoe habits?

That sounds frighteningly like me.
