Aspen biking and swimming

I’m going to be in Aspen in late May for vacation and I’m looking for some good 5-75 mile rides. Anyone have any thoughts? Did Maroon Bells last year, but looking for longer rides this year. Also, is there a good place to swim there? Thanks.

There is always the ride up to Independence Pass. if you want to do a ride that doesn’t go to far but is a good way to get in miles is to head up Castle Creek Road up to Ashcroft then back down and then at the bottom take the road up to Maroon Bells. Its about 40-50 miles and both are pretty. I believe on either Tuesday/Wednesday night the local bike club has crits or they have a race that just goes up to Ashcroft and back down depending.

Another ride is if you head out behind the gulf course…I forgot the road but anyway its hilly (well actually they all are as you can’t get away from it in the mountains) and it can take you to Snowmass/Woody Creek etc…its not the recreation trail. Go to local bike shops they can help out a lot…there are a lot of cyclist in the area. As far as swimming there are always the fitness clubs but you can go swimming at the new public pool which I believe is open now and I think there is even masterswims…its on the same road that goes up to Aspen Highlands and Maroon Bells…actually I think that it is right near the middle school.
