“Making a very cool announcement on Thursday re: a new American partner for our team in 2010 (and beyond). Stay tuned!”
Wonder if this means he’ll be sticking with Astana…or whatever the new team name/sponsor will be…

let me take a wild guess, trek and nike?
LIVESTRONG-Trek Cycling Team
.
Damn you and your spoilers… i haven’t read all my twitter accounts for the day… jk
Trek - Nike Livestrong Cycling Team.
I think Trek would be crazy to not take the title sponsorship of the team. I can not see Livestrong or Nike taking up the title sponsorship of the team.

Livestrong/Nike

Maybe he should wait until after the Tour to get attention back on himself.
Maybe it is AIG or GM jumping in with your bailout dollars…
Oracle - Livestrong, presented by Nike.
is it just me or is this guy just a complete ass? I mean, he announces his ‘big comeback’ while Astana is in the middle of winning the Vuelta, which guys in 1st and 2nd overall. Then, while having a teammate in the lead of the TDF he wants to ‘make a cool announcement’ about HIS NEW TEAM. Can he be any more of a narcissist? Can it just not be about him for a single second? I surprised he’s not waiting until Saturday night for the ‘cool annoucement’…
Can you imaginie if he had teammates pulling this stuff when he was winning the tour? He had a guy left off one of his tour teams because he had the audicity to actually say “I’d love to win a stage while supporting Lance”, and labeled him ‘not a team player’.
It’s actually very common for such announcements to be made during the tour. Additionally, Bruyneel’s comments today about leaving Astana brought it to the forefront. Most the press knows already anyway - it’s the worst kept secret in cycling this year.
although this is a sport, it is a business first. A majority of these guys would not be doing what they do if there was zero money involved.
Am I the only one with a problem of a Charity sponsoring a professional sports team? Although I do like the sound of the American Cancer Society Red Sox.
Vino already said before the tour that he’s coming back and Lance and Johan are going to get the boot. That and the money issue with Astana this year hardly merits any loyalty.
Interesting and plausible.
My guesses:
Hewlett-Packard
Dell
Starbucks

No Livestrong money can actually be used to pay for the team. The title sponsor is going to have to allow the Livestrong name, even without any money coming from them. That makes me think that Nike is the only company that has the pockets and the motivation to shell out that kind of money while sharing the name.

GM - AIG, presented by you, me and those in foreclosure everywhere.

Let me check my pulse…I am so excited.

oh, I certainly understanding him leaving–I just think he should have announced it after the tour and let Contador have his moment in the sun without turning the spotlight on himself.
Yeah, I know that a lot of these annoucements come during the tour, but Lance never has trouble getting the press’ attention, so that’s a lame excuse in my book.
It is very common to make announcements regarding the next season during the final week of the Tour. It is also common for riders to announce their intentions for the next season. My guess it will be a Nike/livestrong because I think that team is already commited for the Under 23 squad through 2010 or 2011. It could carry the Mellow Johnny’s tag as well. Remember he is not just a rider but part team owner. He was part team owner in the Postal /Discovery team with a group which included Johan. They got out of the cycling business in 2008 and are back this year. CSC announced Saxxo last year during the tour. They do this to get exposure for the new sponsors.
