Arizona Rides?

anyone got a gread ride in any part of AZ, the eastern part of CA, or the western part of NM??? I’ve got a couple on my own, including tortilla flats, route 87 towards payson, and some mountain bike stuff but that’s it. Need some help cause i have a friend coming in town and want to show him some good rides… got one week to test them out, so out with the answers:-)!!!

ASU SUN DEVILS!!!

How about up around Wickenburg? Maybe a Congress/Aguila/W-burg loop. Or if the weather’s nice, Yarnell Hill is always good.

Or Superior to Winkleman on the back road then into Globe?

Perhaps the old standby, Bartlett Lake trek.

My Tucson friends tell me there’s tons of stuff down that way as well.

Maybe look at part of the Tour of the Gila course in NM.

If it were a little warmer, I’d say bring him to the White Mtns and I’d show you some big fun ;-)…but it’s a tad cold for that yet.

There is a ton of stuff in tucson. Mt Lemmon is a great ride. Kitt peak is an awesome 12 mile climb and it is about 115miles RT from speedway/I-10. Anything in the backside of the Tucson Mtns.
I just moved to the SW part of phx and need to find some rides. Ideas?

anything in the phoenix metro area…

In metro Phoenix, Bartlett Lake is one of the best, IMHO. The simplified route, depending on where you start, would have you ride north on Pima, then east on Cave Creek until the Bartlett Lake turnoff (look for signs). The climb out of the lake is pretty serious…

I see you already know about Tortilla Flat - that’s another great one. Depending on where you start, you might also like a ride to Saguaro Lake. You could take Shea east to SR87 (Beeline Hwy), then north to the Saguaro Lake turnoff, take that around to Usery Pass Rd. (left (south)), which will take you to McDowell. Then west on McDowell and back up Pima. Probably 70 miles for the loop.

Have fun!

You do the “around the mountain” ride. Priest south to Maricopa, Right on Riggs, around to Dobbins, rt to the end, left to either the canal path or further to baseline, then back to priest.

Also Casa Grande. Take Country CLub south - it turns into Arizona Ave and then into 87 South, then either to Casa Grande or take a left just before it crosses I-10 and go to Sacaton for a Shorter Ride.

As mentioned, Congress up Yarnell hill to Peeples Valley is really good.

Or Shea east to Palisades, left to Fountain Hills Blvd, left past McDowell Mtn Park, then up Rio Verde, aka 9 mile hill, to Pima and back to Shea.

You could try climbing South Mountain, if you can take the pounding. Or doing a loop through the Awatukee Foothills.
