Argon 18 Geometry

HI all.

Previously rode a Speed Concept (Large) that I sold last year since I wasn’t racing. Now that I am filling my calendar for next year, my bike wish list (due to my budget…damn home purchases) is held at three bikes. Canyon Speedmax 8.0 (ultegra mech), Giant Trinity (ultegra mech), and Argon 117Tri+ (ultegra Di2).

I’ve been leaning a lot to the Argon due to a great deal I can get (online), but I hope someone here can answer a geometry question for me. Do they just measure differently somehow? According to their chart online, their Medium (classic 54-56) only has an effective top tube length of 51.7, and the Large (classic 57-59) is 52.5. The top tube on my SC was 54.5 (or close to that)

Are their top tubes really that short on their frames? Their stack/reach numbers are frame numbers and not pad, so I’m not worried about those being different… I can figure that out. Just looking if some Argon owners know. I’m a hair under 6’ but have long legs, so I concern myself with a short top tube. No dealer is close to me and the one that is, has no tri bikes in stock to try out.

Thanks in advance.

Just measured my top from saddle post to stem-50 cm. I ride a size large E-118. I am closer to 6’3" than 6’2" and have a 33-34 inch inseam in trousers. No issues with fit, love the bike.

That helps. Thank you. Maybe I’ll go large. While I’m 6’ my inseam is a bit over 34. I am a pair of legs with a head attached.

I’m 6’1", mostly legs as well. I’m riding a XL E-117.

I went to a bike fitter before I bought the bike and we concluded I needed a bike that was tall with a relatively short reach. I don’t know about the Giant, but the Canyon has a longer reach/shorter height compared to the Argon. He recommended an XL in the Argon for me and it has worked out really well. While I do really recommend the E-117, I would also strongly encourage you to go get a proper fit done. It has made a huge difference for me.

I’m headed that route. Going to my fit guy who put me on my Speed Concept, just looking for more info here.
Appreciate it.

Looks like I’m just one size bigger in the Argon than I would be on the Canyon. Every company is different. I’m hoping to avoid ordering, unboxing, assembling, finding it’s wrong, boxing and shipping back…and starting over again.

The Trinity is not very adjustable, even if you can hit your target position your chances of refining in future will be very limited. I’d drop that off the list
The canyon has reasonable adjustability with Profile Design clipons (old gen) but they’re easily changed if you need more adjustment.
Argon has ok adjustment with the Vision clipons, but they are painful to work with. Again - easily changed.

As far as frame sizing - don’t worry about top tube - look at XY. There are lots of articles on the main page of this site.
as you can see below - the XL E-117 is only a couple of mm different from the SC Large when you look at XY.

That’s a very friendly bike size database GUI you have there, what is it please?

That is a great comparison and tool, thank you.

I was focusing on X, Y but saw so many sites with some doing frame measurements and some doing pads. This tool helps a lot.

Now I know what size in Argon and in Canyon…just need to pick one.

The product of my obsession with bikes. Though I now employ someone else to do most of the uploading.

What are you comparing there? An XL Argon is huge
ie
Head tube
Wheelbase
Standover

So how the bike will feel riding it. I mocked up a bike on a wall then compared to what I had Med Argon vs Large Guru. It was bang on and I had to order a flat stem to hit my pads>road surface height spec- in low setting. So had all the parts I needed when the frame arrived.

I am 6"1 ish and ride mediums, (e118 and E80) ~2013 model year. Argon sizes their bikes in a non-linear way - so the top tubes stay in range i believe when jacking up the height.

ps: What I really like about the new P5X is that the aero-bars are like a seat-tube you can set them where u want, in about 5 mins.

6 ft here, 34" inseam. Was on an Argon 118 NEXT size L, great fit… Sold it as no longer doing long course tri, damn I miss that bike!

I’m looking at replacing a bike and this tool on your website is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Tha j you very much!
