Are Timex Ironman watches made cheaper?

It used to be that I would go through 2 or 3 bracelets before changing watches, and then only because I wanted a newer model. Over the past 3-4 years, it seems I have been going through several watches. They reset themselves unexpectedly or start displaying time in an unknown alien language. Have I just been unlucky or are there others that have noticed the same ?

Mine has been taking beatings regularly for the last year. Haven’t had a problem yet. The face plate is a bit scratched up, but it’s held up a lot better than my 2 previous Nike Imara watches that lasted 8 and 6 months.

I am currently on my 3rd IM watch in about the last 10 or 12 years. I have to replace the bands about every year, but the watches have proven to be bomb-proof.

all my watches get misty inside. I think the combination of swimming, cold morning rides, hot runs; does them in.

My experience is that the watches stop working. I get the battery changed and they’ll stop working shortly after.

Conicidently, the one I got about 7 or 8 months ago just started working poorly. First the indigo stopped working, now none of the buttons work. I can not change the mode or anything else. Maybe this is a battery issue, but I have gone through about 3 watches a year. (oops, I mean 3 in 3 years).

My Timex IM ‘Sleek’ buttons have been hard to use after about 10months. Quite annoying. Other than that it works.

I have a couple of them but my main watch is at least 7 years old (5th band) & it works like a champ. I use the main watch at least 3 times per week and use my other one when I can’t find the 1st watch.

Let is soak then shake it around in some warm water. That will get ride of some the salt that has accumulated in there.

Some answers for everybody –

Chris_gr – the sleek has new buttons that are “integrated” more into the band. They are longer and much easier to press on the new sleek watches. All five buttons have been improved.

For people who have gotten “misty” faceplates (water inside and you did NOT try to change the battery yourself), there was a short run of Timex Sleek’s that had this problem. If you get in touch with Timex, they’ll replace it for you.

In general, repairs and turnarounds with Timex are very reasonable and fast. If your watch breaks. band braeks, etc., let them know AND/OR let me know via email or PM. But it is usually very cheap and easy to get a new band put on or to have the watch fixed if something goes wrong.

The new Sleek is a big improvement over the previous version, so check it out.

I have always used Timex Ironman watches. I tried one of the new Ironman Sleek watches last year- first one went dead, they sent me a new one, the buttons quit working. I bought a new “regular” Ironman watch, and it actually just broke today. I was clearing the Chrono, where it says “Hold to Reset”, and that screen just stuck on. The battery isn’t dead, but it won’t display anything else. Looks like I need a new watch… probably not an Ironman!
