I currently use butt’r cream but feel like it disappears quickly into a ride and I can still get friction build up. Are there other creams that last longer or do they all breakdown quickly.
Assos, DZ nuts, what else is there? What are those like?

I switched to Assos from But’r. It’s a bit thicker & seems to last longer. Plus I like the minty tingle ![]()
I haven’t tried the But’r Euro version in the tub, but I think it’s designed to be the same as Assos.
I can’t bring myself to try boutique ones like DZ, so pricey.
For racing, Sportslick is like silicone, it lasts a good while.
Euro Style Chamois Butter is my all time fav. Couldn’t get it for a short time and tried Assos, but it was too darn greasy for my liking . DZ is just too damn expensive for my wallet…more power to Dave though I hope he is killing it with Nutz! I grabbed a big order of Euro and got it down to $12/jar over the holidays so I’m set for years!
I usually have good luck without using anything, but I’ve tried the chamois butt’r and some stuff made by Hammer, and I like the hammer stuff WAY better.
I did see the euro stuff and may give that a try, looks like people like other stuff way more than the standard butt’r here so I will pick up something else in hopes that that helps.
Not really cycling-specific, but Udderly Smooth works well for me. I have a ton of samples from race packets and liked it enough to buy a tube. Good for a hot 60-miler this weekend. I’m not a fan of the “Euro-style” tingly feeling of other creams.
I’ve never used chamois cream…do you use it doing actual races? Does it rinse out durnig the swim, or is it mainly used for training rides?

In pure “cheapass” fashion (pun intended), I have to recommend that you give some of this a try…seriously…

Another inexpensive option is Bag Balm, available at most drugstores.
No. They are all useless.
Proper fit, correct saddle, the right shorts and T.I.T.S are all you need.
To wit, did 150 mile ride saturday. No cream, no problem. Save your money.

How old are you? I used to be able to say that…

Tried Udderly Smooth, Chamois Butter and the Euro version.
My current favorite is just applying body glide to it. Works like a charm.
This is something I’ve written up a couple times so I copy and pasted the set. Even if it’s not great literature, you get the idea:
Chamois Butt’r - good stuff for general use. It wears off/out at about 1 to
1.5 hours.
Chamois Butt’r Eurostyle - same time limitation but definite WOOHOO factor
when you’re putting it on.:

This stuff ROCKS! It smells like fermenting beer, though. Works for up to 5
hours as far as I can tell
Sportique Century Riding Cream - WONDERFUL stuff. has a beer/hops/yeasty
smell that I kinda like. So far I’ve done 3 hour rides with it and not a
single problem plus it cleared up an irritation spot I had from the last time
my cream wore off. Less expensive than Assos.:

This stuff works well, has been great for up to 1.5 hours that I’ve tried
it. A little thinner than the other two:

Assos - great stuff as well. It doesn’t wear off and works even when you put
it on before the swim and forget to put more on for the bike.
Excellent stuff. A touch more expensive than the others but worth every
cent:

Bag Balm - gets into everything. Coats the seat. Works like a champ for up to
6 hours and is relatively dirt cheap.
petroleum jelly based. It’s a little thick for me anyway and even
when I’m burning up it’s still molasses.
DZNuts - Not worth the effort for me. Wears off after about an hour or so.
Does well until that, though.

Asics Chafe Free Endurance - really good and right up there with the Assos
but is a different consistancy. REALLY expensive but I’m going to keep a tube
around if I find it. There are a number out there now for runners but they’re
in 1 and 1.5 Oz tubes for about $5-10 so they’re not really affordable for
the long term.
Body Glide - doesn’t work for me as a chamois lube. Works great for wetsuit
removal but I think I sweat it off in about 10 seconds on the saddle.
DZ nuts is the best because it is funny and because of the suggestive packaging.
X 2. whats even better is 1/2 chamois butter, 1/2 skin cream. The butter thickens it up and adds a bit more slippery factor but still get the menthol smell.
I can’t say that I have ever judged the cream that I rub on my taint, balls and arse by the way it smells. Do you rub it on your chest and under your nose like Vick’s?
For me-
Chamois Butt’r - It works, it is always available the the 3 bike shops I visit. It is cheap
DZ Nuts - Tingly and expensive. Can’t really say if it “works” better than the others.
Udderly Smooth - Inexpensive and works great for shorter rides.
Body Glide - I like to rub it all over the chamois. It seems to last the best. I wish the had a cream (maybe the do?) because I dont like rubbing the stick all over my “parts” and then using it again later.
Aquaphor - Thick like Vaseline. I use it if I am already raw or have a saddle sore.

If you use the Century Cream I’m talking about you will not be able to escape the way it smells. Once you warm up no one in the room will have any question about what chamois cream you’re using either.
After a couple of swipes down there with a stick of Body Glide, I’m good to go. It lasts all day and doesn’t seem to leave that same squishy ‘poo-in-the-pants’ sensation that Butt’r or skin creams do.
